The Experience
This historic coaching inn in the centre of bustling Tarporley has been welcoming visitors for over 400 years. It was once a stopping off point for travellers making the journey from London to Chester by horse. Today you get the best of both worlds, plenty of character and quirky touches blending with country-comfortable bedrooms and smart bathrooms, some in the main property, others in the outbuildings.
Regularly changing menus celebrate local produce in pub classics and some more adventurous dishes, Sunday roasts are popular and afternoon tea is a treat. For breakfast, expect porridge with locally-buzzed honey, full English or eggs all ways served in the cosy bar area. If you’ve got something to celebrate, book the grand Tarporley Room with its roaring fire.
You’re looked after beautifully by the team and well-heeled Cheshire is just the ticket for a couple of days away – Nantwich and Chester are both under a 30-minute drive.

Local points of interest from Bethan Rose-Bailey
- Tarporley is a quintessential English village in the heart of West Cheshire. Steeped in history, it's even listed in the Domesday Book as “Toepelei”, which translates from Old English as “a pear wood near a hill”.
- There are plenty of boutique and independent shops to explore on Taporley's high street, just a stone's throw away from the Swan.
- This is a perfect base for visiting the historic city of Chester for its many shops, cathedral and the picturesque river Dee, as well as the surrounding Cheshire countryside and North Wales.
- Visit many attractions in the surrounding area including Cholmondeley Castle, Bangor Racecourse and Chester Zoo.
- The Ice Cream Farm is an award-winning family attraction in Cheshire, with indoor and outdoor play areas for children and the world's biggest ice cream shop – perfect for a family day out.
