The Experience
With roots possibly as old as a hermitage for the monks from St Michael’s Mount, these beautiful stone buildings blend seamlessly into the landscape. The Garden Cottage, originally the dairy, has an upstairs living room which you can also enter via outside steps. Along one wall is the newly-refurbished kitchen, a joy for cooks with all the kit you need. Two bedrooms are downstairs, both a good size and they share a bathroom with underfloor heating and a walk-in shower.
The generous welcome hamper includes a cream tea as well as fresh and local goods for breakfast – there’s often a chocolate treat too. On warmer days you’ll be out on your own terrace or finding a bench in the gorgeous gardens, cooling off in – or lying beside – the pool.
This is deep countryside, midway between the north and south coasts and just a quarter of an hour’s drive to either so pack up a picnic and head to lovely beaches. There are superb gardens to explore and much mining history to discover.

Our time (12-22 June 2023 ) spent at Ennys was one of supreme comfort in gorgeous surroundings where no thoughts and considerations for the well being of guests is overlooked. The ambiance and tranquility of the garden with its special private space for the swimming pool is perfect for those ever more frequent hot spells! The cottage interior with its tasteful and carefully considered quality amenities offers all desired for relaxing, cooking, and sleeping. Chapeau and thank you Karin and Nick for such a friendly and truly delightful experience..Carole and Wilf

What to say about our lovely trip to Ennys this Summer? A real gem of a find! We were delighted with how wonderfully thought out everything was: the sensitively restored and beautifully decorated cottage, with its exposed beams and barn doors, and exceptionally comfy bed; the wonderful welcome hamper filled with home baking and Cornish goods; the private garden terrace where we often spent time in the sunshine surrounded by flowers and wildlife; the glorious pool in its secluded sun trap; the wonderful way in which Karen and Nick looked after us but never intruded. Such a wonderful place!

When I arrived at Ennys I felt an immediate sense of calm. I can imagine staying here, swimming in the pool, watching the sun go down with a glass of fizz in the fields and looking out over the valley after a day on the nearby beaches, or walking for miles in the beautiful countryside.

Location
The neighbourhood
The roads around here are narrow and winding so the feeling is much more remote than it actually is. You're on the edge of a valley with the River Hayle and there are many footpaths to wander. Two good farm shops can be found in a 10-minute drive, Trevellyan and Trevaskis. Porthleven is about 8 miles away and has a really good choice of places to eat, as does Newlyn, just a mile further.
Local points of interest from Karen West
- Visit St Michaels Mount at low tide. Walk the Causeway in the moonlight. Or join the South West Coastal path and explore the Tin Coast and Zennor for a more bracing walk
- Swim at nearby romantic Prussia Cove with its secluded coves or the sandy beach of Perranuthnoe. Admire the dramatic scenery and the historic mining history of West Penwith. Learn to surf at Godrevy overlooking the lighthouse, or kitesurfing at Marazion
- Within a few miles of Ennys, enjoy delicious dishes at The Gurnard's Head near Zennor, sip great wines at St Eia in St Ives or choose from a number of interesting places to eat in pretty Mousehole
- Drive to Porthleven for a selection of pubs/ shops/galleries, cafes /restaurants including Kota, Kota Kai or Origin Coffee Roastery with its summer pop ups and growing reputation for great coffee, uber tasty food and delicious cocktails.
- Take in a play and picnic at the world famous open-air Minack theatre. Tour the galleries of St Ives, including the Tate and Barbara Hepworth museum and don't forget to drop in at the Leach Pottery too while you are there.
- Visit National Trust property Godolphin House, Glendurgan Gardens, Trengwainton Gardens and the Penrose Estate. The Lizard peninsula and famous Kynance Cove are a short drive away.

Introducing
Karen West
Karen and Nick moved to Cornwall having spent holidays here and gradually being drawn to the area. They initially lived near Truro before deciding to make West Cornwall their permanent home. They fell in love with Ennys at first sight and continue to develop and nurture it. This is a calming place to stay with a huge amount of history - do ask Karen and Nick about it.
We stayed at the Garden cottage in Aug 2023 and despite not being able to fully enjoy Ennys wonderful gardens and pool (bad weather) we still had lovely time. Garden Cottage is immaculate and beautifully appointed with quality furnishings, fixtures and fittings. Everything feels well thought out, wholesome and stylish. Karen and Nick are great hosts, friendly and helpful and really eager to make sure we had the best of time. Welcome hamper was a nice touch, filled with local and tasty treats; baked scones, jam, bread, eggs, bacon, sausages, etc. We'd happily return to stay at Ennys again.
