The Experience
There’s much to do at this colourful, comfortable place with a team of staff at hand if you should want anything – all dedicated to making sure your stay runs seamlessly. Interiors are designed by Sarah Fortescue, there are fresh flowers from the garden and seasonal produce for the kitchen. You can order picnic hampers or home-cooked suppers.
Book a tennis court, wander down to the lake and deer park, enjoy watching a long summer game of cricket or simply admire the gardens: a Georgian bath house, fountains, an obelisk and monuments are dotted through the azaleas, rhododendrons and camellias, which run into rolling parkland. The estate holds the famous Steam Fair in July.
Set up the barbecue on your terrace and enjoy an al fresco supper as the sun retreats and the stars come out. It’s hushed here so you should sleep peacefully.

On a damp, drizzly January day, the living room here is so inviting. Space, colour, eclectic decor and the comforting smell of the wood burner... why venture out? The stunning Boconnoc Estate is there to explore though, wellies or not. Adventures are to be had wandering the beautiful gardens and parkland. In warmer months, take a picnic to the lake and spend an entire day in carefree indolence.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're at the end of a long driveway in the middle of the Cornish countryside, surrounded by fields, woodland, sheep and cows. Lostwithiel is four miles away and you'll find plenty of shops and restaurants there, including Asquiths. The town is famous for its antique shops. The Duchy of Cornwall Nursery and Cafe is just three miles up the road. Lantivet (20 mins) has a small beach and cliff walks.
Local points of interest from The Fortescue Family
- Explore the delicious local restaurants on the south coast - try Appleton's, Fitzroy and the North Street Kitchen in Fowey, or try The Longstore in Charlestown.
- Cycle 30 minutes to the small village of Lerryn, buy a drink from the pub or an ice-cream from the shop and sit on the banks for the river - it is an idyllic spot on a sunny day.
- If you have kids who want entertainment try Adrenaline Quarry - this is 20 minutes away and has an inflatable water park, go-karts, giant zipwire and much more.
- Use the estate mountain bikes and head off to explore the miles of tracks on the grounds, or book to use the tennis rackets and ball to knock up on the court.
- Head to the Duchy Nursery for a coffee and delicious cake, and some excellent shopping.
- Ask to use one of our pizza ovens, that we can set up for you outside your cottage.

Introducing
The Fortescue Family
The Fortescue family have owned Boconnoc House since 1864 and the award-winning restoration work was taken on by Anthony and Elizabeth - deemed an almost impossible task as the house and gardens had been allowed to sink into considerable disrepair. Now restored to its former glory, you are welcome to share it and you are looked after, beautifully, by an efficient and friendly team.
I loved everything about the place before booking, especially the setting, landscape and interior design of the cottage, and it exceeded all my expectations and much more! Perfect for a young family, in rain or sunshine, lovely courtyard to run around and spacious living room with log fire. Would love to have stayed longer and can’t wait to go back.
