The Experience
The cottage originally formed part of the owners’ listed farmhouse, now the ancient farm is managed organically. In the summer the meadows brim with wild flowers and named sheep and cows are treated as family friends.
A comfy sofa and chairs surround the old black range; wooden floors, richly-coloured rugs and embroideries add to the cottagey feel. Bedrooms (one double and a twin) are traditional and comfortable with pretty fabrics. Add a small, stone-walled cottage garden, an iron table on a lawn and those wonderful views and you should unwind and relax.
Susan leaves you homemade scones, bread, jam and eggs from the hens you can say hello to outside. There’s a gastro pub just a mile up the road – The George at Alstonefield. Ashbourne, with its winding cobbled streets is a 15- minute drive.

Introducing
Susan Franks
Susan, an applied mathematician, and James, a mechanical engineer, enjoy their life in this stunning area with their hens and ducks that roam free, their Red and White Irish setter, Fergus, and 3 cats: Ellie, Treacle and Maine Coon, Lily. Farming organically they treat their animals with love and respect and work hard to conserve their land, wildflowers and herbs, and dry stone walls.
I have only good things to say about the cottage. The welcome scones, butter, jam and bread, the incredibly comfortable beds, the spotlessly clean bathroom and kitchen, the wonderful fireplace and furniture, the extremely pretty garden..... it is truly beautiful. A five star stay. We loved it! Out of all the holiday cottages I've stayed in, yours was the most pristine - everything had been thought of and it did feel like a luxury stay.
