The Barn, Easdon Cottage

To my mind the eastern edge of Dartmoor is the prettiest with its steeply wooded valleys, tumbling rivers and tors. The setting of the Barn encapsulates all that is magical about this area. Hugh and Liza are kind and gentle hosts whose light touch on the land is rewarded by an abundance of wildlife. To watch the evening sun from the tiny southwest facing garden would be heaven indeed.

What a lovely, cosy place to stay! So quiet and secluded with great walks from the doorstep. With the Rayburn running because of the cool weather for the time of year, it was snug and warm. Hugh and Liza were so friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. We felt very welcome and loved Liza's homemade spelt bread, butter, milk and eggs waiting for us on arrival. A brilliant, yet unpretentious place to stay in a stunning location. I'm sure we'll be back!

Lovely and peaceful. The perfect place to switch off. Beautiful scenery and good walks. Caring hosts who have thought of everything you could possibly need. Warm, cosy and comfortable. Slept like a baby. Excellent spelt bread.

A lovely cottage in a great location in Dartmore. Close to a number of highlights in Dartmoor National Park. Everything you need can be found at the Barn. Hugh and Liza are very charming and friendly hosts and did everything to make our stay as pleasant as possible. If we visit Devon again, we will definitely use The Barn again.

A beautifully restful stay at Easdon Barn, only a short walk from outstanding panoramic views of Dartmoor. Real dark skies at night. Most importantly hosted by the genuinely lovely Hugh and Liza. Hope to make it back soon.

A lovely peaceful few days. Perfect little hideaway with everything you need. Attentive hosts who are keen to make sure that you have everything you need and the homemade bread on arrival is a highlight.

Hugh & Liza are very warm, friendly & extremely helpful hosts. Their barn had everything we needed. It is very cosy & comfortable with views up to Hameldown. So peaceful & still. The barn was an ideal base for a walking exploration of the moors. Hound Tor, Grimspound, Challacombe, Manaton Rocks, Widecombe in the Moor, Chagford, Kes Tor - all are walkable (for keen hikers) from the barn. Lovely to come back to a bath & comfortable bed after long walks. Sunset from Easdon Tor (behind the barn) was a highlight!

A blissful stay in Easdon Barn. Hugh and Liza so caring and attentive and the barn was perfectly placed for walking on beautiful Dartmoor and exploring the many lovely little surrounding towns and villages. The barn has everything you need to totally chill out and get you back in touch with nature.

We had a perfect couple of days here. It's a very rare place that we'd never have found without Sawday's: genuine, individual and charming, a world away from the standard identikit holiday cottage. The location is magical - a tiny timeless settlement, hidden on the edge of Dartmoor, with huge views and a deep sense of peace and quiet. The barn had everything we could want: a Rayburn for warmth and cooking, a comfortable chair for reading, lovely cosy bed, beautiful big bathroom, and Liza's addictive spelt bread. And our dog Basil was made as welcome as we were by Hugh and Liza. Thank you both!

A beautiful, restful, relaxed stay and all the delights of being on Dartmoor. Walking immediately out of the barn door to Easdon Tor, to the peace of wellbeing, to being in nature, to wild swimming in the Rivers Teign, Dart and Sharah Pool.. to enjoying the tastes of Dartmoor Jail Beer, a Carabus Gin and Tonic in the secluded garden listening to the birdsong of stonechats, redstarts, meadow pipits and the wryneck, a rather strange woodpecker with soft plumage like the owl. Thank you to Liza and Hugh, hosts who really care and share their love of Dartmoor.

What a beautiful, welcoming little cottage in such a peaceful setting. It was great to be able to switch off and just relax, listen to the birdsong and take in the wonderful scenery from the garden. So many lovely walks nearby (which our spaniel enjoyed), we discovered parts of Dartmoor we didn't know about despite many previous visits. Hugh and Liza are delightful hosts, kind and helpful and the welcome pack of home baked bread and organic milk and eggs was very thoughtful. We will definitely return, we felt completely at home there.

There's something truly wonderful about coming in off a windy winter's moor to the warmth of a Dartmoor barn house. With its Rayburn radiating heat, its comfy double bed and the cosiest of bathrooms, it was almost impossible to heave ourselves out of the door onto the windswept slopes. Luckily Dartmoor is a heaven that can lure anyone out to experience its beauty. A perfect getaway for me, my girlfriend and little daughter. We couldn't have asked for more, except perhaps time. Thank you.

We had the most lovely stay at The Barn. It was probably the best kitted-out place I've stayed - such attention to detail. Hugh and Liza were incredibly helpful in the run up to our stay and so kind and warm when we were there. The barn has a lovely cosy feel with stunning views out of the window and from the sweet little garden attached to it. It's in a beautiful and peaceful spot; we went on the most wonderful walks in the area. I fully recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet getaway.

Easdon is a veritable E-den! It was great to escape the rat race, head up into the heart of the Dartmoor National Park and enjoy the peace of the moors. Liza and Hugh have created a simple but cosy place to stay with real character and a view across fields to the moors across the valley. They also did everything possible to help us make the most of our stay. This is a place to unwind, slow down and enjoy the wind in the trees, birds outside the window and walks on the moors. A most enjoyable week!

We had the nicest stay at Easdon Barn. You will find there true quiet, birdsong and the most spectacular moorland on your doorstep. Highly recommended!

A very rare find. One of those truly special places you leave feeling totally invigorated and ready to take on the world. Stunning scenery, abundant wildlife and then there's the peaceful, cosy and characterful barn to unwind within. Thanks to Hugh & Liza for being so welcoming and accommodating. The Barn is a true idyll, surrounded by seemingly endless impossibly pretty countryside. The views are gorgeous, if it's sunny you can eat at the sweet little table in the garden and the bed is extremely comfy. I'd return in a shot.

We were met with a very warm welcome from Hugh and Liza and our delightful accommodation was provided with organic milk, butter and home made bread. A superb, very rural spot, still close enough to access essential points on Dartmoor with ease. We did some terrific walks and ate well in local restaurants, as well as cooking up our own meals in the cosy kitchen. We would not hesitate to return.

We first visited Easdon Cottage in 2000 and have returned six times to stay in the cozy Barn which feels like a home away from home for us. Hugh and Liza are wonderfully accommodating and helpful and a visit to Dartmoor has all the feeling of a spiritual retreat for us. Peaceful and beautiful, yet there are ample opportunities for invigorating hikes in the countryside. In fact, you can walk right out the door of The Barn and hike up onto Easdon Tor -- a windswept and lovely piece of countryside. If we could return to The Barn every year, we would do just that!

Incredible peace and quiet in a beautiful setting. Saw a barn owl from the window and deer in the local forest. A wonderful sense of being hidden away and yet within easy reach of so many highlights of Dartmoor as well as several villages. The converted barn itself is warm and extremely cosy. Perfect place to either snuggle away from the hurly-burly or use as a base from which to explore Dartmoor. If you really need it, mobile reception can be found just a few hundred metres up the path and there are some delicious pubs and restaurants nearby in Moretonhampstead, Chagford and Widecombe.
