The Experience
Ancient beams, some wonderful original flooring and wonky walls are perfectly matched with calming colours, good lighting and upcycled, repurposed furniture and fittings – you’ll feel happy even if you’re stuck indoors. Watch a film, read a book or play games by the warming wood-burner; eat at a long wooden table by glass doors to your terrace area, or take it all outside on balmy days and have a barbecue.
The charming kitchen has all the kit you need and you’re left a generous basket with either scones (clotted cream will be in the fridge) or a cake to welcome you. Upstairs are two bedrooms (one, with a gorgeous Hobbit door, can be a twin) both with smartly dressed beds and sloping ceilings.
It’s a three quarters of an hour hearty climb to the top of Colmer’s Hill for panoramic views of the countryside and coast, then head to Symondsbury with its pretty sandstone buildings and slake your thirst with a pint at The Ilchester Arms.

Location
The neighbourhood
From the villlage there are bike and walking trails. You can walk 30 minutes to the Manor Yard on the Symondsbury Estate for a café, restaurant, gallery and shops. Bridport, 1 mile, with its many shops and restaurants has an interesting market every Wednesday and Saturday. Visit the well known Anchor Inn down on the beach at Seatown, or stock up at Felicity's Farm Shop which also has a café.
Local points of interest from
- Our property boasts an amazing view over the iconic landmark of Colmers hill and access to walks from a public footpath that leads out across fields almost from the back door.
- The Old Flax Shop really was originally a Flax Shop. It has been lovingly restored using appropriate materials, and has won design awards and featured in magazine and newspaper articles, as well as on TV in Escape to the Country.
- It's a short drive to the coastal town of Lyme Regis, where Mary Anning began her fossil hunting career and there's the famous Cobb which featured in the movie "The French Lieutenant's Woman".
- It's within walking distance of the village of Symondsbury and The Ilchester Arms as well as other retail outlets in The Symondsbury Estate, with its delightful restaurant and cafe.
- The coastal drive towards the historic town of Abbotsbury is stunning, with views down over Chesil Bank and the eye-catching St Catherine's Chapel. Stop off to walk along the Ridgeway, exploring an ancient hill fort as you go.
- The local town of Bridport is a thriving market town with a busy cultural sector and within a couple of miles of the coast at West Bay. It is an ideal place from which to explore the designated world heritage site of the Jurassic Coast.
