The Experience
Up the leafy lane to the house at the end. Canopies of trees and a carefully tended garden surround this family home, and on a warm day you’ll be sitting on the terrace for tea.
For breakfast: homemade marmalade and local treats, and eggs from Steph’s friend’s hens. Then head for grand old Winchester, a 10-minute drive or an hour and a half walk across the water meadows. Wander along the loop of its ‘chalk stream’ river; stop for lunch at one of the pubs – ask Mike and Stephanie for the best recommendations.
The vintage Watercress Line is close. On a 10-mile, steam-driven route to Alton, it passes Jane Austen’s Chawton. End the day at the Chestnut Horse in Easton, a mile down the road, for dinner and old-world charm.

Mike and Steph are great hosts. They made us very welcome and were very helpful and sympathetic when we had to call out the AA and get organise an emergency repair of our vehicle. The house is in the countryside but within easy reach of the city. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was utterly delicious.

A very warm welcome awaited us at Bridge House. We enjoyed restorative tea and delicious cake after arrival. Before we could make dinner arrangements however, updated news about the storm Eunice made us decide that we should leave and travel home that night. We were sorry not to spend the night at this lovely home with hospitable and understanding Stephanie and Mike. We certainly recommend Bridge House as one of Sawday’s very special places to stay.

Very quiet and comfortable with excellent cooked breakfast and before that, lovely tea on arrival. Good location very close to Winchester. We used it for the night after a part with friends and it was just the ticket.

Bridge House is an elegant, comfortable family home and the owners make it even more special. I had such a lovely warm welcome from Stephanie and I know that she would be the same with anyone. Nothing is too much trouble and they take pride in telling guests about the surrounding areas. Culture Vultures would love it here; The Grange close by, Jane Austen at Chawton, museums in Winchester.

We stayed for 2 nights in the blue room which has a generous en-suite and great views over the garden. The B&B is in a quiet spot, with easy access to great walks and a pub within walking distance (accessed via a walk along the old Watercress Line). Mike and Stephanie are welcoming hosts and supply a hearty, tasty breakfast (the homemade granola was my personal favourite). We'll happily go back should an opportunity arise!

This is B&B at its best, from the warm welcome with tea and cakes in the garden to the very good sized bedroom with very comfortable bed and in particular down pillows. Breakfast was excellent. Most of all, the hosts were a lovely charming couple who were very interesting to chat with. There was also a very attractive lounge for guests to use. The location is quite close to the lovely South Downs countryside and the M3, yet absolutely still and quiet. We had a lovely walk along a disused old railway track to an excellent dinner in the local village pub.

We have just visited this super bed and breakfast for one night with friends and it is a delightful place! Our hosts made us so welcome with tea and a beautiful freshly baked cake; everything about Bridge House is both tasteful and thoughtful with the guest in mind, although a family home. An excellently appointed room and bathroom and delicious breakfast. Would thoroughly recommend

Steph and Mike are the perfect hosts. The bedroom was lovely, comfortable and views of the garden. The bathroom had upmarket toiletries warm towels bath and walk in shower. We had a spacious lounge at our disposal with honesty bar and fresh milk each day in our bedroom. We were made very welcome on our arrival with a pot of tea and a selection of homemade cakes. The breakfast were plentiful and freshly prepared. Fresh fruit and then a cooked breakfast with fresh made toast. It was a great start to our holiday. We are planning to return next summer.

This bed and breakfast is one of the best I have ever visited. It is not only the wonderful house, garden and location - it is cosy, comfortable and the breakfast was great - wonderful combinations of fruits home made perfect granolas and more! What was most impressing: the hospitality and the care for every little single detail in the rooms and around were very impressing. I would always go there again and I want to give Mike and Stefanie Gretton my best regards

We were welcomed by our hosts with tea & melt-in-mouth homemade shortbread in beautiful garden. Then shown our immaculate bed- & bathroom with top-notch everything: linen, White Company robes, Molton Brown bath gel, soft snow-white towels, plus a mini supply of any/everything you could possibly need. And an adorable Spode Blue tea tray. Both mornings, best cooked breakfast I can ever remember + home made granola & fruit compotes. Mike & Steph are so hospitable, you feel like VIPs & never want to leave this haven in the lovely Itchen Valley.

Introducing
Stephanie & Michael Gretton
Mike and Stephanie are always there to welcome you. They have four grown-up children and nine grandchildren. Due to Mike’s career in the Navy, and to their natural warmth, they are very people orientated. They love to meet new guests and know how to make you feel at home.
We had a wonderful week staying in the very comfortable and bright Blue room which has lovely views over the garden. Everything was of a very high quality and the breakfasts, especially the compotes, were delicious. Mike and Stephanie are both brilliant hosts, so helpful and thoughtful. They did everything they could to make our week's stay so enjoyable including helping us with information on local places to visit and pubs/restaurants to eat at. We enjoyed the convivial atmosphere, chatting to them over breakfast and after returning from our days out in their spacious guests' lounge.
