The Experience
Through an archway, into a courtyard then up stairs to the first floor for a very comfortable sitting room with a merry log-burner, plenty of soft seating, TV, books and games. Cooks will approve of the open-plan kitchen with all its kit, but if you don’t want to look after yourselves you can be catered for admirably by the estate chef Becka Cooper. On balmy days you can decant to the well-stocked front garden for al fresco meals.
Two light and roomy bedrooms sit calmly on the second and third floor with glorious views, well-dressed beds and pretty fabrics. You are left a bottle of estate wine – book a tour and tasting at the vineyard on the estate – and some other treats. Walk all day in the South Downs National Park, feel immersed in nature and surrounded by much wildlife.
Ask about secret wild swimming spots, book the tennis court, get involved in courses or activities on the estate, come in summer for The Grange Festival.

An unusual property with wonderful views from all the main rooms and which has been decorated with flair. Even in bad weather you could hunker down before a log-burner and enjoy it after a long walk.

Location
The neighbourhood
There are superb walks from the door and plenty of information about distances/difficulty in the hefty online guide you will be sent. On the estate you can fly fish, clay shoot, ride a horse, play tennis, wild swim if you promise not to tell anybody where and visit the vineyard among other things. There are events held too, so check the website. Alresford and Winchester are nearby for good shops.
Local points of interest from Fred Baring
- There’s a great walk for every season (picnics and pub stops optional) and there’s also opportunities to arrange vineyard tours & wine tastings, horse riding, fishing and clay pigeon shooting without leaving the estate.
- If your stay is in June or July, you could even catch world-class opera live at The Grange Festival - a stones throw away from The Clock Tower.
- The Clock Tower is the old stable block for The Grange Mansion.
- If you're seeking tranquility, you'd be hard pushed to find a more peaceful location than The Clock Tower, situated within the landscape park of The Grange Mansion.
- On a rainy day, taste your way through our bountiful county with a trip to our local market town, Alresford, just 3-miles down the road. Here, you’ll discover a wide selection of shops, including a well-stocked delicatessen.
- The medieval city of Winchester offers visitors a bustling high street with a range of independent stores to potter, roam and while away an afternoon. Moreover, take the opportunity to immerse yourself in the largest farmer’s market in the UK.

Introducing
Fred Baring
The estate has been in the Baring family in one guise or another for over 200 years. Their 25-acre vineyard produces award-winning English white and sparkling wine. Current custodian Fred is experimenting with more regenerative methods of farming to ensure that the unique soils of the chalk downs are preserved and enhanced for generations to come. You are looked after by a friendly team.
I can only say our stay at The Grange was utterly wonderful. The accommodation was superb and the grounds surrounding it were awe inspiring. Johan, my Swedish friend, had the most memorable and delightful time. The Clock Tower was set perfectly in the middle of the various places we were fishing during the week across Southern England and so from a practical point of view it was also excellent. We would love to come back next year. Thank you so very much for everything and especially to Fred, Tara and poor Max who squelched across the meadow to show us our fishing spot in appalling rain!
