The Experience
Blink and you’ll miss the entrance to The Freeth, an unobtrusive gateway with no signs from the road. Then, head down a mile-long track to this huge red-brick farmhouse, with gardens by a Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winner, orchards brimming with fruit trees, a walled garden angled to catch the evening sun and a wisteria-clad terrace. You won’t need your alarm: the birdsong will wake you up in the morning.
The 1,500-acre Netherwood Estate provides plenty of space to roam, plus an indoor pool for when the weather isn’t being friendly. It’s not just multi-generational families who’ll love this fantastically restored home: consider it for a smart pre-wedding send off, or corporate events.
Keen cooks will love the Aga and magazine-worthy kitchen, but if you fancy a break there’s a lovely restaurant, Native, on the estate. Don’t miss the Sunday Service: papers delivered mid-morning, followed by brunch or Sunday roast with all the trimmings.

We stayed at The Freeth to celebrate a family birthday, and it was absolutely perfect! The house is beautiful, with stunning decor and plenty of space for everyone. The large dining table was ideal for gathering together for meals, and the surrounding countryside provided peace and quiet that made our stay extra relaxing. The indoor swimming pool was a huge highlight – warm, clean, and a great addition to our stay. We also loved the little touches, like the pool table, toy chest for the kids, and garden toys. Excellent restaurants are just a short drive away.

There is so much to say about the Freeth that I don't think I can fit it all in here. It was such a beautiful, comfy, homely, yet spacious place and had everything anyone could want from the crockery to the activities. We all had a very special time here and cannot wait to return. Thanks so much to Ivo and Peta and Rachel. It was a privilege to be able to stay in such a wonderful place with our friends and family. I would say it was a magical experience. If you stay there and enjoy activities, I would definitely recommend Sarah for yoga. We had a lovely class in the garden.

We booked The Freeth for a large group of friends and had the most wonderful weekend! There was more than enough room for everyone to feel completely comfortable; we loved using the pool and cosying up in the sitting room which was a particularly beautiful space. Peta and Dawn left us a welcome hamper of local goodies, which was a lovely surprise. We just wished we could have stayed longer to explore more of the grounds and the on-site restaurant; hopefully we will be back again soon.

Location
The neighbourhood
The Freeth, originally a hunting lodge on the edge of a medieval deer park, is hidden away at the end of a no-through road. You’re on the beautiful Herefordshire-Worcestershire border, with rolling countryside as far as the eye can see: no roads, houses or streetlights to mar the view. The nearest hint of civilisation is four miles away in Bromyard, where you’ll find a choice of pubs.
Introducing
Peta Darnley
The Darnleys took over running their family estate 15 years ago, focusing on being a beacon of excellence in the area. They have renovated The Hyde and The Freeth to create two stylish holiday lets and have now opened their new restaurant, Native.
The Freeth is a very special place to stay, particularly for a family celebration, for it is a wonderfully warm, welcoming, comfortable, yet large house with delightful style throughout and excellent facilities. We were celebrating a 60th wedding anniversary and had an age range of 83yrs to 4 months, (13 adults and 6 toddlers aged 5 and under) but the house was perfect for all of us. The rooms are all of a good size, individually furnished and very comfortable. The gardens are extensive, and the pool is perfect. It really is a very special place.
