The Experience
As you look out at lofty pines imagine Henry VIII thundering by… This whole area was part of the hunting estate of nearby Hatfield House and hugely ancient trees overlook the outside stair to your neat apartment above the Ames’ clapper-board garage. Off the small balcony, through the stable door, is your attractive, compact, white-tiled, living space. Open the doors garden-to-tree-end for the full airy view! You’ve a small pitch-ceilinged sitting area with Velux window, modern L-shaped sofa, faux fur throw; radio and magazines to relax with. From the spotless, smartly-fitted kitchen you can practically see into birds’ nests, and watch deer forage below. The gable-end, queen-sized bedroom is cool and calm, decorated in blues and white – a wooden chest under the eaves has fluffy socks so you can go shoe-free on the tiles. The pristine bathroom is a good size with slatted wood ‘mat’, nice towels and robes. Don’t come laden as space is limited. You can walk down the road just outside to the village pub; local take-aways are good. Golf on the doorstep, Knebworth nearby, Cambridge is less than an hour.

Fantastic experience! Great location in an absolutely charming area - it was such a treat to escape London for a weekend and to wake up in The Treehouse instead, away from our busy London lives! Perfect and easy communication with Pat, the lovely host. Amazing place to stay - exceeded expectations right away during check-in. Surrounded by old oak trees, impeccably clean and equipped, absolutely private, but not too isolated - will be recommending to everyone and try to come back one day. Many thanks!

My wife and I stayed here after getting married at Essendon. The treehouse is a really smart place - clever design and excellent interior gives it a cosy feel. I also stayed here with 3 of my ushers the night before the wedding. Pat, the host, was so welcoming and helpful. She even tidied up for us on the day of the wedding after we left in a hurry on the morning! Strongly recommend the Tree House for a peaceful stay in a lovely village.

We had a wonderful welcome from Pat the owner, the treehouse is very cute and has everything you need for a comfy stay. All the appliances were high quality and easy to use, the welcome basket was excellent and very generous! There were a selection of DVDs/CDs books and magazines. We enjoyed watching the squirrels and birds and went for some lovely walks straight from the treehouse. We spent a day in London as the nearest tube station is a 20 min drive away! I must say I was reluctant to leave a review as we could keep it a secret so we can visit again and again!!

Local points of interest from Pat Ames
- If you enjoy golf, Essendon Country Club is just a two minute drive away. The fabulous pub, The Rose and Crown, just two minutes walk away.Open every day / evening except Monday and Tuesday. Bar snacks and fine dining, or just a pint by the fire.
- Hatfield House, one of the Treasure Houses of England, is also nearby. Magnificent gardens, park, farm, restaurant and shops.
- Knebworth House c.1563 - 250 acres of Hertfordshire Countryside.
- Essendon is a small village, on a hill. Open countryside all around. Ideal for walking, exploring and relaxing.
- Both Essendon Country Club and Hatfield House are venues for weddings, so the treehouse would be suitable for guests . - the country club is within walking distance.
- To be noted .... Limited wifi access. Normally suitable for accessing mail but not suitable for streaming.

Perfect for a girlie weekend away! Surrounded by fields but also close to a pub it's the perfect blend of feeling isolated but not too much. Pat is a great host, fast communication and so many lovely personal touches in the property; bathrobes, bed socks, toiletries and even bread and milk. She really has thought of it all. I would definitely recommend to my friends!
