The Experience
This stand-alone, scrupulously renovated Victorian gardener’s cottage sits on a private estate up a winding farm track and has plenty of space for four. Downstairs you’ll find a sitting room with a wood-burning fire, soft-coloured walls and an uncluttered feel. There’s also a study for those who need to work. The kitchen is semi-open to the sitting room making it a good gathering space and you’re left a very generous welcome hamper with locally-sourced produce. In summer you can wander out to the terrace through double glass doors.
Upstairs are two tranquil bedrooms with deep mattresses, crisp white cotton and lovely views over the countryside. One has an en suite shower, the other a family bathroom – both are warm and pretty with fluffy towels and soaps and lotions from Oast & Rye.
Enjoy sociable cooking and eating in the lovely kitchen, settle down for a film in front of the fire, or walk just under a mile to the Eight Bells pub.

Great place, fully furnished to the highest standards with exceptional beds and linen. Superbly located to visit all the great castles and gardens nearby such as Bodiam, Scotney, Knole... We loved the welcome basket and the high end toiletries.

A friend and I stayed here for a lovely long weekend. The house provides really comfy accommodation and is very peaceful. The welcome hamper was generous in its contents and every item was tasty. The quality of the decor and equipment was most appreciated. We enjoyed exploring the surrounding villages and hope to come back for another breathe of fresh air.

We recently spent a weekend at Hensill Farmhouse, near Hawkhurst in Kent. We had a wonderful time, and the farmhouse exceeded our expectations in every way. The farmhouse is beautifully located in the countryside, surrounded by fields and woods. The views are stunning, and the property is very peaceful and quiet. The farmhouse itself is spacious and comfortable, the kitchen is well-equipped, and we enjoyed cooking our own meals in the farmhouse. The hosts were extremely friendly and informative.. Very enjoyable experience of the English Countryside..

We enjoyed a couple of nights in the gorgeous Hensill farmhouse to escape the city and cannot speak highly enough of much we enjoyed the serene and beautiful property. The farmhouse stay is like being in a fairytale and we will definitely be back.

Location
The neighbourhood
Hawkhurst village is just over a mile away – a lovely 20-minute walk through countryside. Here you'll find shops and cafés and an interesting 'old town'. Bodiam Castle is just five miles so quite possible to walk there and back for a day out, or hire bikes and cycle along quiet lanes. Further afield find Sissinghurst, Chapel Down Vineyards, Small Hythe, Tenterden and Rye for wonderful antique shops.
Local points of interest from Liz Crichton
- This corner of Kent is a garden lover's paradise. See if you can get around them all, from the white garden at Sissinghurst Castle to the Arts and Crafts style at Great Dixter, to horticulture royalty Sarah Raven's own garden at Perch Hill.
- Young and old will delight at our local history. Stand on the site of the Battle of Hastings, scale the ramparts of the stunningly well-preserved 14th century Bodiam Castle or explore the romantic moated ruins of Scotney Castle's picturesque gardens.
- Take a day trip to the picturesque Cinque Port of Rye. Browse the galleries and antique shops, visit historic Rye Castle, refuel at the great High Street cafes and pubs and stride out along Rye Nature Reserve or the miles of sandy beach at Camber Sands.
- Outdoor enthusiasts will love the miles of well marked and maintained mountain bike, running and hiking trails through Bedgebury National Pinetum. You can rent bikes on site and reward your efforts with treats in the well stocked onsite cafe.
- Gastronomes should book in at Michelin green starred The Smallholding at Kilndown. Serving a set menu celebrating the best of regional ingredients and home grown produce, brothers Will and Matt Devlin put sustainability at the heart of everything they do.
- All good holiday cottages need a great pub within walking distance and the 8 Bells on the Moor in Hawkhurst does not disappoint. Come for the jolly atmosphere and locally sourced food and drink; settle in by the fire or in summer relax in the sunny garden.

Introducing
Liz Crichton
Elizabeth lives in the main house with her family. It's about 750 yards away but semi-secluded. There is a key box for guests but Elizabeth will be on hand if you need any help.
We had a delightful stay at Henshill. Everything in the house is of a very high standard & thoughtfully & tastefully put together. The welcome hamper was carefully chosen & generous. The location is secluded & the views from every window beautiful. Lizzie very kindly brought the high chair round & it felt as though nothing was too much effort. All in all a really lovely experience.
