The Experience
Elegant Edwardian terraces sweep the flanks of this surprisingly quiet street. Thread your way down to Elspeth’s garden flat, filled with all her bits and pieces, that will be your city pied-à-terre for the time that you are a Londoner. Close enough to the Oval to hear the cricket cheers, it’s well connected by public transport so almost anywhere is in easy reach. The double bedroom is the first room on the right as you go in, with its piano and morning light, but go deeper inside for the best bits. Wrapped in green-leaf wallpaper, the living room knows how to relax among an assortment of bulbous lamps, gilt mirrors and a wooden horse, ranged around a circular table. From here, move seamlessly into the dining area with French windows that lead out to the long garden hung with trellised vine, apple tree and willow: a good spot for a book and tea. The kitchen, draped with garlic and utensils feels like a bucolic snuggery, and it’s an easy step across to the warm pine-clad bathroom. Vauxhall Park, the Southbank, Clapham, Westminster, Borough Market, Tate Galleries, Imperial War Museum are all close–by.

We stay in London several times a year and prefer self-catering accommodation. Elspeth's apartment is by far our favourite and we hope to return many more times. It has many advantages, being extremely convenient for the centre of town for all attractions, but also very quiet and private. Oval tube is 5 minutes away and there is a Little Waitrose 10 minutes' walk away near Vauxhall tube. Tate Britain is less than 25 minutes walk. The apartment also really feels like home. It is extremely well equipped and spacious as well as having real character and the advantage of a lovely garden.

Local points of interest from Graham D’Albert & Elspeth Charlton
- Vauxhall - through pretty Vauxhall park with a cafe. From Vauxhall it’s possible to walk to the new very glamorous Battersea Power Station or walk across Vauxhall bridge to the Tate Britain and a bit further to Westminster and the houses of parliament.
- From Vauxhall it’s also possible to catch a boat from St. George’s Wharf to the South Bank and Tate Modern . You can also get a boat direct from Tate Britain
- Bus from Vauxhall to Chelsea and Chelsea flower show. Train from Vauxhall to the stunning Kew gardens - both about 20 mins. Oval cricket ground 20 mins.
- Borough market ( bus) 10/20 mins and on to the city and Spittalfields market Sunday ( same bus). National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery and Covent garden - about 15 mins
- Places to eat. The Fentiman Arms , pub with outside dining and snacks and Sunday lunch etc. The Canton Arms - same thing but better
- The American Embassy is just a 10 mins walk! We are 2 stops to Victoria for great connections, 3 stops to Buckingham Palace and the Royal Academy, 4 stops to Oxford Circus.

Introducing
Graham D’Albert & Elspeth Charlton
Francophiles Graham and Elspeth moved out to France over 25 years ago, and now live in a farmhouse two hours away from St Martin. You therefore shan't be greeted by them on arrival, but they hope you enjoy everything that their places in both St Martin and London have to offer.
We stayed a week in Elspeth's garden flat which is exceptional being very comfortable with everything you need. Access to central London both by tube, Stockwell or Oval and bus from Vauxhall or short walks and Uber is easily accessible as are Boris bikes and scooters - if you are feeling adventurous. Local pubs are great especially Canton Arms which is 10 -minute walk away. However, highly recommend a trip to Borough Market and eat in the beautiful garden Neighbourhood is very quiet at all times of day and night and safe. Communication with Elspeth is easy and efficient with immediate reply
