The Experience

Tucked away on a historic estate, this Victorian farm cottage will satisfy all your cottage core fantasies. Thatched roof? Tick. Latch doors? Tick. Wooden floors? Muted fabrics? Pretty wallpaper? Tick, tick, tick.

The sitting room is a dream – squashy sofas and armchairs, plenty of books and board games, fresh flowers, and an electric log-burner to keep things toasty. French windows open onto a patio and gated lawn. There’s a long table outside for al fresco dining, plenty of space for games, and a dog-washing station for inclement days.

Bedrooms are restful and utterly charming, with Hungarian goose down quilts, lovely art and views of the garden – two doubles downstairs, another double and a twin for the kids upstairs under sloping ceilings (watch your head). The family bathroom is swish – Egyptian marble, underfloor heating, a rolltop bath and walk-in shower. A lovely kitchen diner has all the kit and gorgeous Cley crockery.

We think you'll love

  • Summer days in the garden, eating outdoors, watching the sun go down and the stars come out – no light pollution
  • Packing up a picnic and heading to the coast at Cromer for walks along the pier, bathing and pootling on the beach, the best crab sandwiches
  • Looking out for wildlife, especially birds, in all the woods around you – you'll find some good walking routes in the welcome folder

Reviews

Come on down to this pretty thatched house for carefree family holidays with plenty of space indoors and out for games – you can have a proper seaside holiday but staying away from the hustle and bustle of the coast. Plenty of room for children and dogs to tear about when you get home and no light pollution so lovely starry skies.

Location

The neighbourhood

There are woodland walks around the estate and to the splendid Gunton Arms (30 mins) in Thorpe Market – and plenty of flat, quiet roads for cycling. Cromer (seven-min drive) has wide, sandy beaches, a beautiful pier and lots of good pubs. Explore historic houses – Blickling Hall NT (six miles) is a Jacobean beauty with huge gardens. Holkham Hall is an hour's drive, as is the Sandringham Estate.
