The Experience

Tall octagonal chimney stacks and a Georgian façade give the house a stately air. In fact, it’s the friendliest of places to stay and Paris gives you a delicious, locally sourced breakfast including plenty of fresh fruit. The house, originally Tudor, is a delightful mix of old and new. Large light-filled bedrooms have loads of good books and views over the four-acre garden, a favourite haunt for local birds. Bergh Apton is a conservation village seven miles from Norwich and you are in the heart of it; perfect for cycling, boat trips on the Norfolk Broads and the twelve Wherryman’s Way circular walks.

The lovely Paris greets you with the friendliest of welcomes - offers the most comfortable of bedrooms, delicious breakfasts and plenty of suggestons for exploring this beautiful region and its eateries. We loved it here and really felt part of the family during our stay.

Patricia, Hawarden, Flintshire

Thanks Paris for a great stay! Paris attends to your every wish, your room is confortable, and the house is very characterful. I would have no hesitation in recommending to others.

Sue, Brussels

The very best B&B........by far! Our visit to stay with Paris and her husband Nige, was utterly delightful! From the extremely warm welcome, we were made to feel right at home in this truly wonderful house. The extent to which our needs were met, surpassed just about every other B&B we have stayed at. Nothing was too much trouble, and we can't tell you just how relaxed we were. The beds were super comfy, and the breakfasts were exactly what we wanted. If you're looking for somewhere really special to stay near Norwich, you will love Washingford House!

Ashley, Kirkcudbright

The most fabulous relaxed welcome to a gorgeous and very comfortable home where there is a great atmosphere but also very peaceful. Wonderful welcome for the dog too and rare offer for him to be ‘left behind’ if we needed to go out without him! Wonderful breakfasts and a great slice of Norfolk living.

Alistair and Shelley, Nottingham

Paris was an incredible host: kind, accommodating, flexible and really made us feel taken care of, without being intrusive in any way. She welcomed my little boy with warmth and he was at ease in the house within moments as Paris had prepared some toys for him to play with and storybooks for bedtime. Paris also pre-booked a place for us for dinner, at a child-friendly time and gave excellent advice on places to visit during our short stay so we made the best of the time we had on our break. It really felt like a home from home. I can't recommend highly enough. We will be returning!

Kate, Oxford

From the moment we arrived until the morning we left Paris could not have been more friendly and helpful. Her knowledge of the area helped us get the most out of our short stay in Norfolk. The beautiful imposing country house had a homely ambiance .the large bedroom had a delightful view of the garden. We shall always remember our cosy chats over breakfast.

Diana & Chris, Boston Spa Wetherby est Yorkshire

Paris made a special gluten free cake for our ill friend who cancelled. We ate the delicious orange cake and slices were posted to our absent friend. Paris cooked us meals and breakfasts were either in the kitchen or in the magnificent lounge complete with comfy settees and medieval fireplace. Rooms were homely furnished and a quirky timetable ensured we all had plenty of hot water. Each afternoon, tea & home made cookies appeared & we chatted together. Nothing was too much trouble. Norwich, the Broads, Cley , Flixton Aviation museum, Southwold were good day trips. We left as friends.

Liz, Southampton

We had a lovely stay at Washingford House and under Paris’s incredible hospitality felt right at home from the moment we arrived. Our rooms were very comfortable, the house, gardens and tennis court are stunning, and Paris gave a superb breakfast with her excellent cooking. Adults, children and dog were all very happy and felt like part of the family throughout our stay! Washingford House is well positioned for the broads, the great city of Norwich, and we also spent a day up on the Norfolk coast. There are excellent walks from the house too. Overall a very pleasant experience indeed.

Joe, Felixstowe

Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely house. Everything was perfect and we felt part of the family for a few precious days. We enjoyed your scrummy browwnies on the way to Sandringham for a brief stop as we headed home.

Granville, Chalfont St Giles

Such a fantastic weekend away! On arrival we were greeted with homemade shortbread and tea on the terrace whilst we gazed over the beautiful grounds. The house is like a stately home - it’s enormous, tastefully decorated and hosts Paris and Nigel aren’t a little bit precious about it. They gave their time generously and offered plenty of local information which saved us time when you are only staying a few days. Beds at Washingford House are very comfortable and breakfasts cooked by Paris, ably assisted by Sous Chef Nigel, are hearty and delicious. Wished we could have stayed longer.

Teresa, London

We had the most fantastic 4 days staying at Washingford House. Paris and Nigel were the most welcoming and hospitable hosts in their beautiful home. The grounds were fantastic and relaxing, we also enjoyed a family game of tennis. We will definitely be returning in the future.

Debbie, Brighton

What a wonderful place Washingford is! And what a fantastic host is Paris! The house itself is gorgeous: lovely and homely inside, with beautiful extensive gardens outside. A tranquil, relaxing and restorative air to it all. And Paris could not be more welcoming: she's a delightful host - immensely warm and friendly, she put us at ease within seconds of meeting her, and had the great knack of making us feel completely at home. Her breakfasts are absolutely delicious, too! We felt completely at ease lazing in the garden, then pedalling off on our bikes to enjoy the quiet countryside.

martin, London

We stayed as a family including our two sons (23 and 25) and had an excellent stay. The tennis court is in very good condition and got much use. Our well behaved spaniel had a highly enjoyable time running around in the extensive grounds and rubbing noses with Tessie, the Back's delightful Norfolk terrier. Our hosts were charming and we agree with others that Paris goes the extra mile - including an excellent breakfast and pots of tea & homemade biscuits on our return each day. For anyone wanting to visit Norwich, the Broads or simply this part of Norfolk we would highly recommend.

Trevor, Richmond, Surrey

A warm and friendly welcome awaits you in a pretty home in utter tranquillity - what better place from which to set off to explore luxurious and gorgeous Norfolk!

Diana, Sawday's inspector

This was the most recent of several visits over the past 11 years. We stayed for 4 nights, and it was simply like being at home again! Paris is such a welcoming and helpful person - nothing is too much trouble for her. The whole house has a delightful atmosphere - books everywhere, fresh flowers in the rooms, family photographs all around. The rooms are comfortably furnished and the bathrooms are spacious - plenty of room to move around in them. Breakfast is delicious, with cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt, toast, and whatever cooked food you can manage! Highly recommended on all fronts.

Christine, Kirkcaldy

From the moment we received the clear and friendly directions until the time we left after a two-nights stay, we encountered the most wonderful B&B experience imaginable. Paris goes the extra mile to make her guests feel very welcome, comfortable and completely at home. The rooms are superb, the breakfasts are feasts, and the setting is wonderfully quiet and peaceful. Very highly recommended.

John, Hexham

Paris is a FABULOUS host and makes you feel at home even before you've arrived. Lovely house, lovely breakfast etc etc. If you're in the Norwich area for business or pleasure this should definitely be your number one choice - and I know, I've been trying to find a good B&B in the area for years and this is easily the nicest and the best value.

Alan, London

This B & B is an absolute gem. Paris and her family are wonderful hosts and go beyond excellence in their warmth and friendliness - this includes Tessie, their Norfolk Terrier! There was everything that you needed in the room with lots of storage, television, radio, books....the bathroom was very, very spacious. The breakfast is really good and there is tea and coffee to make in your room - the views from which are quiet, peaceful countryside. I felt I had been to a retreat for a couple of days! I can't wait to return. Thank you.

Terri, Harrogate

We really appreciated the perfect blend of hospitality and informality that Paris at Washingford House offers. We were made to feel very welcome and comfortable, and very much appreciated the lovely old house, which manages to both spacious and full of family mementos. The grounds are easy on the eye and well looked after, and the company of Tessie the Norfolk terrier was an added bonus. We had a lovely time and will have no hesitation in returning.

Maggie, London

A lovely altenative to buget hotels in Norwich for a business traveller. Charming and helpful hosts, a supremely comfortable bed and excellent breakfast in a tranquil rural setting makes this a favourite Sawdays of mine.
