The Experience
Your stone-built cottage is in a peaceful 17th-century hamlet with a pub that was once a coaching inn on the original route from Scotland to England. You’re steps from the Coquet river; pick up a fishing permit at the bar when the salmon are in season.
Friendly owners Lorraine and Paul live next door and take care to meet guests and share their love of the local area. A bountiful welcome basket includes wine, eggs, rustic loaf, milk, chocolate and more. There are also plenty of logs for the wood-burner and comfy robes and slippers in case you’ve forgotten yours.
Country walks start from the door, and you can hop in the car to explore the Northumberland coast’s sandy beaches and castles. Return to hearty, locally sourced food from the pub or cook for yourselves in the spick and span kitchen; sit out in the pretty patio or spend cosy evenings in with board games and a selection of good books for company.

A charming little bolthole. Cosy, clean and comfortable. We were made to feel very welcome by Lorraine. The attention to detail was outstanding. Close to everything you could wish to see and the added bonus of a pub with good food on the doorstep. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

We have just spent a lovely four days at Coquet cottage. It started with a very warm welcome from Lorraine and Paul and then our pleasure at discovering how thoughtfully equipped the cottage was. It just has a really nice feel to it and we felt relaxed and at home. The weather was rather wet but the cottage was so comfortable (and the log burner great for drying socks in front of) that it didn't detract from our break at all. It's a lovely little haven and a great base from which to explore.

This was our third time visit to Coquet Cottage in Weldon Bridge. Previously twice over New Year and this summertime visit. Each time the cottage and attention to detail, such as an arrival hamper of goodies provided by Lorraine and Paul, has been exemplary. The cottage is beautifully presented and equipped, with every last thing thought about. There are so many places to see and things to do nearby and some lovely places to eat. Such a peaceful place to unwind and enjoy. We will be back again!

Coquet Cottage was one of the loveliest places we have ever stayed. Lorraine was so lovely, friendly and helpful and just next door if we needed anything. The cottage is beautifully presented - even better than the photos, I’d say - and positioned fantastically in the countryside but also very near a lovely pub. The kitchen was so well equipped (this is very rare!) and we were greeted with such wonderful treats on arrival! The bed was very comfy and we loved the living area with different places to sit. There is so much to see & do in the area and Northumberland is stunning. The perfect base!

we had a fabulous stay at Coquet Cottage, in Weldon Bridge. Lorraine was the prefect host, welcomed us on arrival and showed us around before leaving us to enjoy Northumberland. We visited several National Trust places, along with Rothbury and Alnwick. The cottage was ideal bolthole for two and ideally situated to explore the local area. There was a great welcome pack, and we would recommend this lovely cottage to future visitors to Northumberland

Wonderful cottage, there’s everything you need for a very comfortable stay as Lorraine has thought of everything! Welcome basket was a real treat. Comfy bed and great location next to the river for fishing types. Great sun trap seating area for those not that keen on fishing. Great food at the pub 2 minutes walk away in such a fabulous rural setting - what’s not to love!

My husband and I (ex pat Geordies) thoroughly enjoyed a very relaxing stay, in between visiting family in the region. The location is quiet, yet within easy reach of many wonderful attractions Northumberland has to offer. This fabulous cosy cottage is a perfect bolt hole, furnished to a very high standard and most comfortable. You want for nothing here, the lovely friendly owner Lorraine has a great eye for detail. We would not hesitate to book this again, no matter what the season.

My wife and I had an excellent week in this lovely area of Northumberland. The cottage is in a quiet village and has everything you need for a very comfortable stay. Two minutes down the road is a pub serving good food for those evenings when you don't feel like cooking. Alnwick , with its wonderful castle and gardens is only 25 mins away - the second hand bookshop in the town is also well worth a visit. The interesting Northumbrian coastline for walks etc is a similar distance. At the end of our days out we always looked forward to the comforts of the cottage.

A lovely little place for two where you can relax and unwind. The cottage is very well equipped and has been beautifully furnished with a nod to mid century design. Great local walking and a friendly local pub just a couple of minutes walk away.

We were very impressed with this beautifully furnished cottage which is ideally placed for visiting all the main sites in Northumberland. The cottage contained all that we needed for our stay including a well stocked welcome basket. Lorraine and Paul were a very friendly couple who were happy to chat to us and recommend places to visit as well as pubs/restaurants. Northumberland has many fantastic sites to explore but it was good at the end of the day to return to our lovely cottage and sit in the delightful courtyard or in front of the wood burning stove accompanied by plenty of candles.

Location
The neighbourhood
The 17th-century hamlet of Weldon Bridge consists of a row of six pretty sandstone cottages, a converted mill house and a former coaching inn, The Angler’s Arms, nestled by the River Coquet. Coquet Cottage was originally the animal barn, attached to the Grade II listed farmhouse next door. The nearest village, Longframlington, is two miles to the north and has a grocer’s, butchers, artisan coffee shop and two village inns. You’re 20 minutes' drive from sandy beaches and impressive castles on Northumberland Coast AONB and ten miles from the market towns of Alnwick and Morpeth.
Local points of interest from Lorraine & Paul Dryden
- Centrally located between two historic market towns- Alnwick and Morpeth. Visit Alnwick Castle the Duchess of Northumberland's Alnwick Garden and Treehouse restaurant. In Morpeth visit the Northumbrian Bagpipe museum or take a rowing boat along the river.
- 15 minutes drive from the outstandingly wild, rugged and beautiful Northumberland coast, castles and golden beaches . The fishing harbour of Craster,Dunstanburgh Castle, Low Newton and a visit to The Ship Inn for fresh crab sandwiches, highly recommended.
- Country pubs and country walks literally from your doorstep. A short drive away, explore Bamburgh Castle and the Grace Darling museum or catch the tide and cross the causeway to historic Lindisfarne and Holy Island.
- Hill walking abounds in diverse landscapes: take up the challenge of the Cheviots, visit the remote College Valley: marvel at the natural waterfall and plunge pool at Ingram Valley that is Linhope Spout; succumb to Simonside Hills and its mystical charms.
- Huge skies and starry nights. Wonder at the moon and stars up close at Kielder Observatory. Dine on fine food at The Pheasant Inn whilst awaiting nightfall, or closer to home simply take a step outside and gaze upwards from your cottage doorstep!.
- Northumberland has so much to offer, one visit will not be enough!

Introducing
Lorraine & Paul Dryden
Lorraine and Paul Dryden love the rurality of the village, finding it the perfect place to kick back and relax after a busy day. They love the dark skies and the countryside walks from the doorstep yet being close enough to shops and restaurants in the market towns and villages nearby. Lorraine and Paul have two holiday lets in Northumberland and are experienced in looking after guests from arrival: brimming hamper, wood-burners set ready to light and comfortable beds.
Had a wonderful week away staying at Coquet Cottage. Lorraine was so friendly and welcoming. The cottage is lovely, cosy and with everything you need and more. Snd a great welcome basket. Beautiful location with a great pub at the end of the row of cottages. Easy access to coast, castles and the National Park. Would love to visit Northumberland again and Coquet Cottage is where I would stay. What more can I say. Thank you.
