The Experience
History buffs and nature lovers rejoice. You drive through lion-topped stone pillars to a house built in 1682 (then extended) that stands in 800 acres enfolded by the river Severn. Charming Ros and Edward are down-to-earth and hands-on: eggs, bacon, ham, vegetables, and logs, all come from the estate. Flop in front of a huge fire in the drawing room, homely with family antiques, big rug, magazines strewn on large tables. Peaceful bedrooms are large and light with pocket-sprung memory mattresses and snazzy upmarket bathrooms. Walk, fish, ride (there’s a livery stable on site) and lap up the views – they’re sublime.

2 lovely days with family in this gorgeous house full of history and artefacts of all ages. Super kind generous hosts in Edward and Ros. I absolutely loved everything about it. The grandchildren loved the pool and the animals and all the space to explore. Just fabulous, hope to return another time. Thank you so much.

I must say we had a wonderful visit on our first stay at Ros & Edward wonderful country house. My teenage daughters loved having the freedom to visit the horses and not to mention the cats, geese, peacocks and turkeys. The hosts are ever so welcoming and friendly. The breakfast ingredients (the porridge is legendary) are all from local producers and you can taste the difference. The accommodation is well appointed and it truly helps you to get that “away from it all” feeling. This is a timeless charming place to spend a few days - I would highly recommend it.

We loved our two-night stay at The Isle Estate. It's a fascinating working farm with the friendliest, most accommodating hosts we've encountered. We were invited to walk the estate, including a beautiful lake, peacocks, horses, goats, and many gorgeous fields. The breakfasts were delicious and we loved sitting around a large table chatting with other guests and our hosts, Ros and Edward. We learned so much about the history of the estate and the area in general. Our room was bright and lovely and had everything we could need. Upon booking, we received beneficial information regarding the area.

We've just returned from another very enjoyable stay at The Isle. Ros and Edward are excellent hosts; always happy to offer advice and chat but never intrusive. There's a hearty breakfast and in the winter a roaring fire. We would really recommend not only staying here (particularly suitable for those with a dog), but also visiting the many stately homes, castles and historic sites in the area as well as the stunning scenery, eg the view from Montgomery Castle is to die for.

Ros and Edward were the most friendly and generous hosts we have met for some time. A very warm welcome, the most comfortable beds and delicious food. Only sorry we could stay for 1 night. We will return for a longer stay and take time to explore the surrounding area. Thank you both.

An absolute treasure. This beautiful estate, with long driveway, is such a pleasure to go and stay at. The historical house, keeping so much of the original features, provides a wonderful setting to enjoy a few nights of peace and relaxation in beautiful British countryside. The hosts, Edward and Ros, could not be more helpful. Hear all about the history of the house from Edward. Enjoy the food, eating breakfast in a room full of family portraits. In the summer, swim in the outdoor pool.. There is a great choice of rooms, family, double triple. The web site shows all the details.

We had a wonderful time at the Isle. Edward and Ros were magnificent hosts who made us feel completely at home. Along with John who kindly transported us several times during our stay, they were kind, helpful and extremely personable. The Isle is a beautiful estate bordered on three sides by the river Severn. The B&B is run as a labour of love, and is part of a broader diversification of the estate encompassing a livery, fishing and pioneering green farming. We left feeling relaxed and recharged. It was a truly memorable experience and we can’t recommend it strongly enough.

We had a wonderful night's stay at The Isle back in July. It is a beautiful house in a stunning setting and the owners are so welcoming and make you feel so at home. The rooms are wonderful and the whole house full of such character. We had wonderful beautiful walks around the estate bordered by the River Severn - it was totally blissful. We had supper at the house too which was truly delicious. Thanks so much for such a great stay.

Although there's so much to see and do in the area surrounding the Isle estate, it would take a lot to tempt me away from the chance to wander around the hundreds of acres. After all, how often do you get the chance to unwind while sitting on the banks of the River Severn in such a tranquil place, watching out for elusive otters and other wildlife? Then, maybe a dip in the private pool? Bliss.

The Isle is the perfect quiet retreat. Ros and Edward are extremely generous and attentive hosts. Our supper was delicious and largely home grown, the cooked breakfast was fantastic and the porridge was outstanding! A beautiful walk around the lake in the morning capped it all.

Our third visit to this peaceful spot where we learned a lot about farming. Edward took us for a stroll to the lake with the dogs and the time passed in discussing restoring soil fertility on the estate. Very kind and gentle hosts who were attentive without being too present. Hope to be allowed to return!

I found The Isle on Sawday's as a result of my usual B&B in town being fully booked. I'm so glad I did as it was just perfect for our visit, staying in the comfortable, period, eclectically decorated family room. The owners were very friendly and obliging and breakfast was perfect. Plus the children had a lovely time in the pool!

Ros and Ed run a lovely quirky establishment on a huge working estate. Full of livestock and close to Shrewsbury and the Welsh marches this is an excellent and very interesting place to stay. Good rooms and excellent breakfasts, plenty of walks around the property. Avery good place to unwind . Both Ros and Ed have a fund of useful knowledge regarding where to eat and what to go and see.

A truly wonderful spot. So glad we found it. The owners Ros and Edward were so welcoming and made us feel at home straight away. The evening meal was a delight - so tasty. Likewise breakfast was wonderful with homemade jams. We were allowed to explore the estate and enjoy the use of the pool - it was a very warm weekend! We loved it and look forward to returning soon. A very big thank you for a lovely weekend.

We had the pleasure of staying 3 nights here on a cold snowy weekend. This was not a problem as we would have been overjoyed to be marooned in such a wonderful place. We received a warm welcome from Edward who after showing us to our delightful room with fantastic views made us a pot of tea to enjoy in front of a roaring log fire in the sitting room. Whatever we needed was provided by Edward and his lovely wife Ros. We have been using Sawdays British B&B for many years and have never been disappointed. The Isle B&B, Shropshire exceeded our expectations and we look forward to more stays there.

One of the best B&Bs we have stayed in. The hosts couldn't have been more charming and helpful and our room was beautiful and spotlessly clean. Edward's knowledge of the local history was very impressive and he pointed us in the direction of a beautiful church in Shrewsbury and a great local wine merchant. Local ordinance survey maps are on offer for walking, which were almost a necessity after the amazing breakfast - I loved the coconut and ginger porridge. All in all a truly wonderful and relaxing place to stay with great hosts and wonderful countryside to explore.

We only stayed two nights but would be very happy to have stayed longer. The owners were charming, very sociable and informative and felt like the friends that one would choose. Their animals are equally friendly and, after an excellent dinner on the second evening, to walk outside on a clear and starry night and hear three owls staking their individual territorial claims was a memory to cherish. Lovely house and rooms and beautiful surroundings. Do ask Ros for her 'special' porridge.
