The Experience

The downstairs sitting room is all yours – warm, comfortable and attractive. Pick a book from the shelves, settle into a comfy sofa, warm yourself by the wood-burner on chilly days, watch TV and feel very much at home. You sleep up in the attic, bright and spacious, which has a separate double bedroom, an extra single bed on the landing, another seating area with a desk in case you need to work and a sparkling shower room.

Continental breakfast can be brought up to your bedroom but if you prefer a cooked one made from local ingredients you can have it in the charming kitchen downstairs after 8.45. Take a cup of tea to the  garden where all you’ll hear is birdsong and the cathedral bells – you’re on the same street.

Everything is in walking distance, you can catch a bus to Glastonbury or Bristol and there are miles of footpaths through glorious countryside all around you. The Somerset Levels are close for birdwatching.

Reviews

Alice was the perfect host, making us feel very welcomed and the beautiful Trinity Cottage is a gem, with a great location so close to the Cathedral precincts. We would definitely return.

Julie, Little London Hampshire

It's a charming, historical townhouse, with a lovely host family. Ideal for those who love to wander and explore interesting cities like Wells. All local attractions are just right on the doorstep. Moreover, such close proximity to the Wells cathedral gives Trinity Cottage a magical aura. Enjoy a cup of coffee whilst listening to cathedral bells.

Location

The neighbourhood

You can walk to the cathedral – it's a big and detailed place so well worth booking up a proper tour. Visit The Bishop's Palace and Gardens, the Garden of Reflection, the pools and Tor Hill woods. Plenty of places to eat are nearby – the Fountain Inn, a gastropub or Root Wells, a vegetarian restaurant. The lively market (Wed and Sat) is a four-minute walk. Castle Cary is a 25-minute drive.

Local points of interest from Alice

  • Wells is England's smallest City! Its Medieval Cathedral, Bishop's Palace, and Vicar's Close are just a couple of minutes away from Trinity Cottage!
  • The writer who inspired JK Rowling, Elizabeth Goudge (1900-1984) lived in Wells! Goudge wrote about Wells and its Cathedral in 'City of Bells' and 'Henrietta's House. More recently, Wolf Hall was filmed at the Cathedral.
  • Wells is bursting with pubs, cafés, restaurants and shops and hosts a market every Wednesday and Saturday. For light exercise, walk across the Medieval Deer Park or through Tor Woods- all within 5 minutes of Trinity Cottage.
  • Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury, Bradford Upon Avon, Castle Cary, Bruton, Frome and Bath are all within an easy drive.
  • Visit in October to attend the annual Literary Festival (www.wellsliteratureoffestival.org.uk) and Food Festival (www.wellsfoodfestival.org.uk).
  • For details of Cathedral services, tours and concerts, go to www.wellscathedral.org.uk. For a 'Hot Fuzz' tour, book locally.

Introducing

Alice

Alice and Edward bought the house in 2021 and have since refreshed the interior and done essential repairs. Alice is an architectural historian and heritage consultant who is very much in love with her home and the surrounding area. She's a good source of information about where to go and what to see, so do ask.
