The Experience
This cosy cabin started life as a honey farm and was then used as stables; it’s now a lovely bolthole for two with uninterrupted views across rolling fields and the South Downs for spectacular walks – a paddock for your horse if you want too.
Enjoy morning sun on the terrace – you’ll find some homemade muesli and jam for breakfast; in season, Alison and Charlie will leave you apples from their orchard and some home-grown vegetables. The Sussex Ox is only a five-minute walk for organic food from a local farm or you can stock up at Middle Farm Shop a short drive away.
Amble half an hour to characterful Alfriston for pubs, restaurants and The Rathfinny Vineyard. Seven Sisters and the coast are 20 minutes away. In the evenings, keep toasty by the wood-burner (with plenty of wood left for you) – there are games and books to keep you entertained.

Thank you for such a beautiful stay! The crumpets and home made marmalade and jam were so delicious. Also thanks for being so flexible on our last day here. Jacksons cabin is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of London. We will definitely be back again.

My instinct was to want to stay there myself for a quiet weekend of walking and enjoying the view. I would love to get to know Alison and Charlie better just as they have become friends with many of their guests.

Jackson’s Cabin was perfect for us – providing a tranquil oasis to recharge before resuming our travels in the south of England. We love the South Downs – the Seven Sisters were spectacular as anticipated - but also thoroughly enjoyed the places only the locals know about – the Bluebell Walk and delicious dinners at country pubs. Thank you for the tips and all the extra touches, like a bottle of milk in the fridge and the lilac blossom in the bedroom window. We only wish we could have extended our stay.

Location
The neighbourhood
The cabin is easy to reach yet feels private and remote – the owners’ house is next door, but you have your own path and a completely private south facing terrace. Glynebourne, Charleston and Cuckmere Haven are within easy reach. Leave the car and arrive by train from Polegate or Berwick.
Local points of interest from Alison Cotton
- We're close to the South Downs Way, the Wealdway and the Vanguard Way, plus many other stunning routes for walking, cycling or riding. Follow the Cuckmere to historic Alfriston for excellent places to eat and drink, quirky shops and the NT Clergy House
- We are in the heart of Bloomsbury Country, with Charleston Farmhouse and Berwick Church within 10 minutes drive. Farleys House and Gallery, the home of surrealists Roland Penrose and Lee Miller, is 15 minutes drive
- Jackson's Cabin is perfectly situated if you are visiting Glyndebourne Opera House (15 minutes drive)
- We are lucky to have the famous Sussex Ox pub nearby, serving local ales and ciders plus organic ingredients produced on the owners’ farm. We recommend the 5 minute stroll along this quiet lane where starry skies are unspoiled by street lights.
- The Seven Sisters Country Park is close by. Drive there in 15 minutes, or cycle in half an hour, to see the iconic white cliffs where the famous meanders of the river Cuckmere reach the sea. This is a magical place to swim at high tide.
- Nearby Seaford is a delightfully unassuming seaside town, where you can find excellent fish and chips at Trawlers. Where else could you park for free right on the seafront to watch the sunset after a swim?

Introducing
Alison Cotton
Easy-going Alison and Charlie live in the main house and are there to help their guests settle in, as much or as little as wanted. Charlie is a carpenter (and builder), Alison an artist (and former tree surgeon) so much of the cabin is their own work. They love walking in the area so can tell you the best routes – or lend you a map. You may meet their rescue dog too.
The accommodation far exceeded our expectations-Jacksons Cabin was even better than the photographs, having the most amazing views and being such a relaxing place. It was spotlessly clean and there was everything there that we could possibly need. Charlie & Alison were lovely hosts and were available if we had needed them. There were so many lovely walks and cycle rides from the cabin and a wonderful pub, The Sussex Ox, just 5 minutes walk away. We would have no hesitation in recommending Jackson's Cabin to our family and friends, it is just perfect!
