The Experience

Pheasant strut, shy deer bounce by – sure signs that you’re immersed in the Goodwood Estate. This little flint barn is tucked into one of the most unspoilt woody corners of Sussex. Rush hour here, on a leafy lane, consists of the occasional tractor, car or combine harvester.

A welcome pack of fruit, ham, cheese, coffee and croissants is provided by Rob and Rachel who live in the main house – as are binoculars so you can spy on the wildlife. Sit out on the neat little patio through the French windows, enjoy a game of tennis (rackets and balls provided), borrow the barbecue. Children will love going up to the woods to make dens.

Walk two miles from the garden to join the South Downs Way, hire bikes and follow good on-road routes or go off-piste on a mountain bike. Rob and Rachel leave you maps and guides. Stock up at an excellent farm shop, walk to the pub for supper, wander back to watch the night sky when it’s clear – there’s very little light pollution here.

Reviews

A delightful and sensitive barn conversation set amidst rolling hills. First rate amenities and thoughtful hosts. Walks straight from the door yet well located for beaches, gardens and places of interest including an excellent theatre and art gallery. Would return in a heartbeat.

The countryside here is quite stunning - gently rolling and very pretty. This is a safe and happy spot to bring children and your dog with woods to make dens in, a tennis court for safe play and some great walking paths to join. The coast isn't far either. Rob and Rachel are the kindest hosts.
