The Experience

Your apartment is above a lovely big gallery/hall – with a piano and a wood-burning stove. The building was once the workshop of artist Sir Frank Brangwyn and is in the heart of a thriving village with an arty heritage. Shirley uses the hall as an exhibition space sometimes and you can wander down the road to the award-winning Museum of Art + Craft, and visit the many craft makers, jewellers and artists who work in the village.

Find a quiet, comfy bedroom with garden views and a cosy sitting room with a kitchen area. Shirley leaves you homemade cakes, chocolates and breakfast things, and each morning brings over a tray of fruits, yogurt, local artisan bread and eggs for you to cook how you wish.  Order the papers, borrow books and maps, sip your coffee and plan your day out.

The South Downs National Park is your stomping ground; Brighton, Lewes and Glyndebourne are all close by. Return to rustle up supper, or stroll down the road to one of the friendly pubs.

Amanda, Chinnor

Shirley was the perfect host for our stay in Ditchling. A truly stunning home and a wonderfully friendly welcome - including tea and cake in the lovely garden. Our apartment was peaceful, cosy and comfortable with everything we could have needed - lots of interesting maps and guides, luxurious toiletries, heavenly breakfasts and the most glorious bed in the world. A very special place indeed. Huge thanks for a great weekend.

Sarah, London

We had the most wonderful couple of nights in this gorgeous historic home. Our own little apartment, very calm and peaceful. Beautifully and thoughtfully furnished with the most comfortable beds and luxurious bedding. The outlook over the garden was delightful. Shirley was friendly and attentive yet discreet and delivered a delicious plentiful tray of breakfast goodies outside our door each morning, including cake. Full of local tips and knowledge. We felt very comfortable and private. Highly recommended

Steven, Leicestershire

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Jointure Studios. Shirley made us very welcome in her home and her beautiful, peaceful garden. Spotless, beautiful accommodation. Lovely comfy beds. Bedroom looked directly out on the the garden. So quiet. Everything was thought of. The breakfast delivered to our door was delicious. Shirley provided a different little treat every morning. Although parking wasn't provided on site, it was not a problem to park in the free village car park just around the corner. Beautiful, friendly village. So much to explore nearby. We would thoroughly recommend.

Margaret, FREELAND OXFORD

Had a very relaxing stay at The Jointure as a birthday surprise. Shirley and Kevin are great hosts- allowing us to borrow an OS map for local walks and letting us explore the garden to recreate an old family photograph of Frank Brangwyn. The apartment is private and the bedroom is very quiet with a comfortable bed, lovely shower and bath and beautiful products to use. The breakfast was very fresh with delicious home made cakes and biscuits also provided. Hope to stay again.

Louise, Ashford

We had a lovely, relaxing stay in Shirley’s beautiful home. Being a bed & breakfast, but within the self contained flat gave us privacy, but with the huge benefit of superb, beautifully presented breakfasts, including imaginative fresh fruit salads (even in Nov) & a different homemade cake every day of our stay! The flat is part of a fascinating historic building, elegantly decorated with some beautiful pieces of art which underline its artistic history, and Ditchling is a short distance from some excellent walking routes. We would highly recommend it.

We can highly recommend The Jointure Studio after spending 2 nights there. It’s ideally located for trips to Brighton and South Downs walks. . The accommodation was perfect, stylish and spotless. Shirley has a fantastic host and we were made to feel so welcome and at home. A warm welcome awaits you at Jointure Studios. Shirley is a perfect host, providing the right amount of hospitality, whilst allowing privacy in your own space. Delicious home made bread and cake and fresh fruit for breakfast daily. A relaxing and enjoyable stay in a unique property.

Barbara, BLANDFORD FORUM, Dorset.

The Jointure Studios is exactly the kind of B&B we love with an additional small sitting area/kitchenette providing tired walkers with the flexibility to eat-in after a long day rambling over the picturesque South Downs. Athough The Jointure Studios is on the main road through Ditchling village the accomodation overlooks the immaculately tendered garden and is peaceful. Breakfast is plentiful and slightly different every day. Shirley was incredibly helpful in giving tips on where to go and what to do. All in all, a very comfortable place to stay in a beautiful part of the UK.

Suzanne, London

What a delightful place to stay, couldn't recommend it highly enough. Shirley was delightful to deal with throughout the booking process and very welcoming and accommodating once we arrived. The accommodation is great, everything you need and more. Lovely central spot. Highly recommended.

Kim, Halesworth Suffolk

We love staying at the Jointure Studios. Shirley is the best host, providing a seriously scrummy breakfast tray each morning. The self-contained flat is a delight. Gorgeously decorated and furnished and well equipped. The bed is a huge and comfortable 6’ (or can be twins). And all is squeaky clean with social distancing no problem at all. Ditchling is in a lovely part of the world - fabulous houses and gardens to visit, interesting towns and villages, great walking, good places to eat and lovely countryside. What’s not to love?

Gill, Bristol

Beautiful place to stay. A tranquil gem! So many little touches to make it feel special. Gorgeous garden & delicious breakfast.

Charlotte, Brighton

Lovely place to stay in a great location. Having a small sitting room and kitchen is a bonus. A warm welcome from the hosts and some useful tips on local walks. Overall a great weekend getaway.

Dominic, London

We had a fantastic couple of nights at The Jointure Studio. We arrived later than we had hoped however this was no problem for our lovely host Shirley. The apartment was very clean and had beautiful white bed linen and a huge double bed with great views over the garden. The breakfast was marvellous and as the studio has its own small living room and kitchen we could eat in there at our leisure. The fresh flowers were a lovely touch and I would not hesitate recommending this to anyone. We thought that it was great value for money- if you need somewhere to stay in Ditchling - stay here!

Julia, Edgbaston, Birmingham

A very comfortable, clean , characterful and welcoming place . two nice pubs to eat in 3 minutes walk away in a small and lovely vIllage. Couldn’t be easier. Shirley made us feel at home and breakfasts are excellent. Thank you.

Sally and Fid, Fleet

Jointure Studios is divine! Everything you could possibly desire is here. Gloriously comfortable beds and bedding, beautifully thought out interior design, lovely view over the garden and delightfully presented copious breakfasts. It was a wonderful break for two friends looking to escape for a couple of days. Thank you so much Shirley and Kevin.

Sarah, Canterbury

Shirley has really thought about, and continues to think about, what makes a B&B special and that ensures that this happens. The freedom of the fresh part of the breakfast arriving outside the door is lovely and unusual. The stylish decor makes the rooms a pleasure to be in and the views of the garden are lovely. You are also welcome to stroll or sit in the garden if you want to. The bed is a massive 6-foot wide with a lovely, floaty duvet and plump pillows. It might be difficult to get out of!

Alison, Sawday's inspector

A beautiful house and a warm welcome. Everything was excellent for our two night stay here. Shirley welcomed us to her lovely house in the middle of the delightful village of Ditchling. Our studio apartment was quiet, comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast was fruit, yogurt, eggs and bread provided on a tray for us to use as we wished. The nearest pub, The Bull, served excellent and imaginative food. There is lots to see and do in the surrounding area.

John, Hope Valley

What a privilege to stay in such a beautiful place. The self contained space suited me perfectly, having the breakfasts left for me. Thoughtfully and beautifully decorated rooms, lovely breakfasts and a great location to use as a base for walking on the South Downs and exploring Lewes. Highly recommended
