The Experience

Nancy was a chef in London for years and breakfasts here are a feast of local, organic and homemade treats. You eat at the big wooden table in the bright, sunny kitchen. When you arrive there’s homemade cake or biscuits to settle you into the rather grand drawing room; with its open fire and views over the garden it’s just the right sort of place to unbend.

There’s a swimming pool to splash in and the garden has herbaceous borders, a herb garden and neatly-clipped beech hedges – there’s also a vegetable garden and you’re free to wander everywhere. Knock a ball around the croquet lawn or go straight out the door onto the Marlborough Downs AONB; it’s a 1.5 hour walk to Barbury castle for an iron age hill fort.

Bedrooms are super comfortable, two big doubles and three twin/doubles (all ensuite) and one sweet twin with a private bathroom. Marlborough is a 15-minute drive for shops, eating out and an indie cinema.

Reviews

I was working in Swindon this week and stayed at the beautiful Overtown Manor, just a short drive away. Nancy...could not have been any more kind or welcoming. The house is set in a beautiful location, perfect for an evening stroll. The house and rooms are warm, clean, and cosy, with a log fire in the communal downstairs area and another in the kitchen area where breakfast is served. I was treated to Nancy's homemade cakes, and a jar of homemade cookies in the bedroom ... I only stayed one night, but didn't want to leave!

Karen, Port Talbot

What a gorgeous old house in a remarkably peaceful, much-unknown spot and an AONB. You'll feel instantly at home here and will love the beautiful, big garden with its lower beds, lovely round lawn for croquet, paddocks and open countryside around you.

Location

The neighbourhood

Marlborough has a twice weekly market (Wednesday and Saturday) selling everything from locally produced food to crafts and plants. It's packed with independent shops and good places to eat - try The Polly Tearooms for lunch and Rick Stein's seafood restaurant for evenings. The North Wessex Downs are a bit of a hidden gem, filled with wildlife and an AONB. Avebury Stone Circle is 15 minutes by car.

Introducing

Nancy Lawson

Nancy, a trained cook who worked for Sheepdrove Organic Farm, is the fourth generation of her family to live here. Her father and brother still run the farm - 1200 acres with grass fed ruby Red beef - you can buy it in Marlborough. The house overlooks stables with horses and they keep chickens, sheep and pigs. You'll see the odd cat loitering about too.
