Union Place

If you are planning a holiday in East Yorkshire or need an excuse to have one, stay at Union Place in Whitby. You will be warmly welcomed into a spacious, comfortable and beautifully restored Georgian House . All is easy going and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for our host Richard during our four night stay. It is a peaceful house with a beautiful garden. The breakfasts - superb! A highlight for me were kipper fillets from Fortune's smokehouse in Whitby.

Having spent a wonderful couple of nights at Union Place, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it if looking for somewhere to stay in Whitby or its environs. The beautiful house, amazing breakfasts and friendly, knowledgeable hosts alone are worth the trip! We’ve returned home feeling wholly refreshed and would happily have stayed longer if we could have. Absolutely fabulous - many thanks for such an enjoyable break.

We stayed for 3 nights at this piece of paradise but we could’ve stayed forever. Chilled, comfortable and elegant. Real charm and character in an era of cloned upmarket stays. The added bonus is Richard, the host with the most, full of helpful tips and interesting banter. Whitby is fantastic and worth anyone’s time and effort. So, if you’re planning to go to Whitby, stay with Richard at Union Place.

We thought Union Place was a beautiful and special place to stay. Our room was elegant and peaceful and a good night’s rest was followed by a laivish breakfast. Its situation is so convenient for visiting all places on Whitby on foot and finding a different route back home each evening if you wish to admire the architecture of Whitby further. The house is comfortable and welcoming and filled with unique works of art, as well as various books relating to the history of Whitby. I expect we will be back to stay at Union Place, at a different time of year.

A really wonderful place to stay made all the more special by the amazing hospitality from Richard and Jane, who really went out of our way to make us feel special. It was our first stop on our way up to Scotland and definitely one of the most memorable. Thanks so much for looking after us so well, despite our late arrival, despite arriving late and dietary requirements. We really loved staying with you - thanks for having us!

We very much enjoyed our stay at Union Place. This historic house is beautifully decorated. Bedrooms are very large and well furnished - the bed is very comfortable - and as guests, we have access to a dedicated living room with a beautiful view on the garden. A fabulous b&b to discover the charms of Whitby. Union Place is a beautiful Georgian house which has been lovingly restored & the bedroom is very spacious with a lovely bay window & exceptionally comfy bed. Friendly, charming owners & tasty breakfast - what more could you ask for!

The Savoy it ain't, but that more famous Hostelry's clients couldn't do better on a visit to Whitby, something not to be put off for too long. The delights of Union Place, and its owners will put a smile on your face.

A really enjoyable stay and fantastic hosts. We will definitely be back again. Nothing more you could want. An amazing house, with a perfectly presented version of its historic self. You could explore it for a few days and find new things to enjoy. But you’ll be too busy enjoying a great conversation with your hosts and admiring all the beautiful artwork on display.

When in Whitby stay here. Quiet, relaxed, delightful hosts, art at every turn and even a Wassily chair by Marcel Breuer to lounge and take it all in. Garden, location and views just icing on the cake. Fully recommended and this from someone not easy to please.

The accommodation is gorgeous, the location was perfect (very very short distance to town and beach), perfectly located as a base and day trips to other surrounding areas - Richard was full of advice and recommendations on where to go and how to get the best experience when there - all in all, a perfect 3 night stay and we'd definitely come back if we make it up that way again (the duvet alone would be enough reason to return!) Stylish, arty and cosy - with dogs, fab hosts and a wonderful breakfast. I was made to feel very much at home, which is so important if you're travelling on your own. Thank you :-)

A wonderful and incredibly stylish place to stay. The house is in a quiet neighbourhood yet is only a short 10 minute walk into the centre of town. I particularly enjoyed the vista from the window, the roll-top bath and excellent breakfast. Richard kindly served kippers at our request! I must say it is also incredibly good value for such luxury accommodation.

A beautiful Georgian quirky house,with parking, in the very centre of Whitby, 3 minutes from the beach shops restaurants and every amenity. The bedrooms, bathroom and sitting room for guest use were exquisite and with every comfort and attention to detail. The welcome from our attentive and affable hosts and the breakfast provided, was superb and I can, without equivocation, wholeheartedly recommend it.

Sawdays is my 'go to' when planning a break, individual, quirky and full of character places to stay. Richard and Jane's Union place is exactly that. A beautiful home with charming hosts in a stunning part of the world. We stayed for 6 nights, enjoyed great breakfasts every morning, and looked forward to coming 'home' every evening. We were all made very welcome, and are very appreciative of their personal approach. It was fun! Thank you.

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful Georgian house: spacious accommodation with abundant original features, helpful and hospitable hosts plus a delicious breakfast. Great situation - very short walk to the town and coast - and Whitby itself was full of interest and surprise. Already planning a return stay.

It's difficult to know where to start after probably the most enjoyable 3 days of our lives at Union House in Whitby. This Adam Style Georgian town house has been thoughtfully renovated and impressively improved over 27 years with fittings of the highest standard which make any visit just so special. Tho owners Richard & Jane are two in a million and fantastic hosts, never intrusive but to miss their company would be a travesty. My wife and I never stopped laughing after spending some time with the pair. They are so so funny. Great house, great time in Whitby! Never forgotten break.

Three wonderful nights spent in the company of our thoughtful, funny and very helpful host and a charming dog. The breakfast music was as excellent as the food , the rooms even more impressive than the description and Whitby and its surroundings a smile-inducing discovery. To make use of a better poet than I: Don't think twice, it's alright!
