The Experience

Come for windswept family walks along miles of pebble beach, or take the high road to Culzean Castle, high above the Firth of Clyde (or the ferry from Cairnryan for a day in Belfast!). Come home to toasty floors and wood-burners, memory-foam mattresses and kitchens that are a delight to work in. There are three cottages here, independent but close enough should you be one big party; there’s a table for 12 in the largest. Fisherman’s Cottage is just that (and it’s a lovely renovation); the other two are attractive eco builds. All three lie on the outskirts of untouristy Ballantrae (shop, post office, pub), a stroll from the old harbour, with safely fenced gardens from which you can sniff the sea. The interiors are new and spacious, fresh and fabulous, with themed furnishings (red for Beach, blue for Shore, dove-grey for Fisherman’s) and great welcoming touches. Wooden shelves are home to iPod docks, games, guide books and shells, driftwood mirrors decorate restful walls, and entrance halls and porches display baskets of umbrellas, shrimping nets and cricket bats. The detail is second to none.

Reviews

With a combination of wonderful linens and sea air from walking along the beach right outside your door, you're guaranteed a great night's sleep in any of the Harbour Cottages. Comfortable and cosy inside with views out to sea to die for, you will not be disappointed and I'm sure want to return. A beautiful unspoilt part of South West Scotland, not to be missed.

Fantastic stay, felt like home from home. Dogs loved the garden and can’t wait to return next year.

This is our second visit to Beach Cottage and the experience was the same. FABULOUS. The cottage is a dream and wonderfully furnished. You couldn’t get closer to the sea. The furry friend was catered for with a bag of treats when we arrived as were we with shortbread. I just love it here. It’s my happy place.

What a beautifully equipped cottage in a breathtaking location!

We stayed at Shore Cottage. The cottage & location was excellent. The cottage had everything we needed. Very comfortable, a home away from home. The location made it very easy to explore this beautiful part of the world. It was also convenient for us to “ commute” to the Open at Royal Troon.

Wonderful, comfortable cottage. In lovely location near the harbour at Ballantrae. Fully equipped cottage - everything we needed for our week away.

Our 5th visit and another splendid relaxing stay. Cottage was clean, warm and cosy.. apart from the day when the wind was from the NE and there were draughts from the windows, and as we could not control the heating, it was good to have the wood burner. Treated ourselves to afternoon tea at Glenapp castle, and visited lots of gardens.. which were beautiful. Also The Whithorn Story was an interesting few hours and well worth a visit. Also enjoyed the Burns Museum. I would say the places to visit info in the online brochure needs updating, as some of it has changed. Eg Dunskey Castle.

Wonderful, cozy and clean cottage, surrounded by a nice fenced garden - ideal for a stay with dog.

We had a lovely time in Shore cottage, it was clean and welcoming as well as very peaceful. The house was cosy but we did find the rooms very light due to non-blackout blinds which was a bit of a problem for our child in the morning (early wake ups!). We found the beds too soft for us, personally. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and the living room cosy with a log burner (although wasn’t needed as weather was nice!). The garden was lovely and secure so perfect for our dog. Wifi was a bit patchy at times when watching Netflix but otherwise can’t fault the house and we would return.

Isla, Airth

The cottage was very clean and well equipped.

Another fantastic two week stay at Beach Cottage. Fabulous views onto the beach and sea. Location ideal for dog walking on the beach. Really well equipped house with everything we need. Would highly recommend.

Sara, Telford

Beautiful cottage! Perfect for our family visiting from the USA attending a wedding!

Jennifer, Portland, OR

We stayed in the Old Fishermans Cottage and loved it. Very well equipped, spotless, and a perfect place to relax. Would definitely recommend it and we will be returning!

Totally in love with Old Fisherman's Cottage,it is the most beautifully appointed cottage we have ever stayed in. Well deserved 4 star. A total joy and can find nothing detrimental to say. Congratulations to all involved in keeping this cottage so beautiful. We are loving our stay here and will certainly return.

Four of us (my husband, I, my brother, and brother's wife) stayed in Shore Cottage during our first trip to Scotland. The house is wonderful; the setting fantastic; the village people ever so friendly. We are all hoping to return to this fabulous vacation house in 2017.
