The Experience

Light pours in from view-filled windows, underfloor heating warms the polished concrete floors and the three-sided wood-burner makes sure everybody feels the glow. Unwind surrounded by an artful mix of vintage rural and scrupulously modern, with huge comfort in mind. The open-plan deVOL-designed kitchen is a great place for everybody to cook together, or chat while having a stir over the Smeg cooker. You’ll find White Company china, good glasses and a box of local treats, including the owners’ cider from apples grown on the farm.

Bedrooms are calm and warm. One looks out over the river Tay, the others are cosier and have doors to a courtyard for morning sunshine. All have tiptop linen and towels, organic wool mattresses, Scottish blankets and handmade lighting by Jim Lawrence or Fritz Fryer; marble bathrooms have Noble Isle lotions.

A wildflower meadow out the back, sunset views over the river and an Ooni pizza oven mean balmy evenings are magical.

Location

The neighbourhood

The Fife Coastal Path and National Cycle Route 777 run through the farm. You're in an SSSI on the Inner Tay Estuary so birdwatchers will be happy spotting a myriad of migratory geese and swans, along with garden birds. A short walk across the Holy Burn will take you to Lindores Abbey Distillery where you can book lunch as well as a tour. St Andrews, golf, fishing and watersports are all nearby.

Local points of interest from

  • Ideal for day trips to St Andrews, the legendary Old Course for world class golf, and the famous West Sands beach; Dundee’s impressive V&A; Edinburgh’s cobblestone streets, museums, art galleries and festivals; the East Neuk’s fishing villages.
  • Grab your wellies, wool blanket, picnic basket and tour the Apple Field full of Scottish Heritage and Classic Cider apples, picnic on the hills (the site of one of Wallace’s last skirmishes) and then walk it off on the Fife Coastal Path.
  • Walk out of the cottage and join the coastal path that runs through the farm, climb Norman's Law for great views, several trails and stunning views across the river. Over 50 golf courses in Fife if that's more your thing!
  • Visit Lindores Abbey Distillery, only a short walk away — through our Priests’ Burn Field (where we grow malting barley for their whisky), over the Holy Burn Bridge & discover the story of the Birthplace of Scottish whisky.
  • Hire an electric bike, cycle around the farm and the 124km Fife Coastal Path, or experience the very best bespoke ebike tours of Tay Country tailored to your ability with local guides, featuring a private boat crossing of the River Tay with onboard lunch.
  • Explore the River Tay: guests who are experienced sailors, paddle boarders and kayakers can access the river along our riverbank. Bring your own board or kayak, or arrange a paddle board tour with a local guide.
