The Experience

Friends and families will adore this carefully renovated manor house deep in rural North Wales. Views spill over the acre of lawned garden and endless green fields with the highest peak, Moel Famau, rising in the distance.

A sweep of staircase, lofty ceilings and a baby grand waiting to be tinkled make this a good spot for celebrations and special get-togethers. Spread out in a lounge, morning room opening to a sun terrace, snug TV room with glowing wood-burner and five spacious en suite bedrooms. Come together to chop and stir in the farmhouse kitchen then dress for dinner and sit in the candlelit dining room. For breakfast and informal suppers you’ll probably stay in the kitchen.

Play croquet on the lawn, stride into mountains and valleys, visit castles and discover the rugged coast. Stop for a pub supper or slip home with your farm shop goodies and rustle up a feast.

We think you'll love

  • Being able to drive to the coast for a day out or mountains for spectacular walking and climbing
  • How thoughtfully the house has been put together for holidays: books, games, original Welsh art and artefacts, lovely furniture and textiles
  • Part of every booking goes towards planting trees in Wales and the photovoltaic cells in the old vegetable garden feed back to the grid

Reviews

Reliving childhood memories. We relished the peace, space, beauty and comfort of your wonderful house and gardens. The children have been 'playing' the piano since our arrival. We've had a fantastic time.

Stuart, London

Thank you for a lovely stay at Ein Cynefin. Our family have had a truly wonderful time in this beautiful home. The children made excellent use of the gorgeous garden and the games. We hope to be back another time - we're going to miss it here. Sarah & Family

Sarah, Manchester

Your house is stunningly furnished and loved - it truly felt like a home away from home.

Grace, Chester

Ein Cynefin is a generous and well thought-out house. The work to renovate it has been completed to an exacting standard that has created an atmosphere of comfort and indulgence. The art and collections lend it a deeper layer of atmosphere. It is a great house for family get-togethers or friends' reunions. It is quite rural but within easy reach of cities or countryside depending on your mood.

Steph, Sawday's Inspector

Thanks so much we had a lovely time, your house is very special!

Location

The neighbourhood

The nearest town is Mold (10-min drive) for a range of shops. Walk from the door to one of the local pubs in Northop or Soughton. Take forest walks in Loggerheads Country Park (15 mins), climb Moel Famau, promenade in the seaside town of Colwyn Bay (30 mins) or venture into Snowdonia (1 hour). Stock up at Hawarden Estate farm shop and for art exhibitions visit Ruthin Craft Centre.

Local points of interest from Angharad & Teleri

  • Talacre - Climb over the sand dunes and emerge onto a wild blustery beach with a majestic lighthouse. There’s often no one there. Turn up early to see astounding sunrises or go later and grab fish and chips on the way home.
  • Sit on the sun terrace of our one acre garden and listen to birdsong and the bleat of the sheep beyond the ha-ha. Pick apples from our orchard, forage for wild garlic or stain little fingers with wild blackberries growing near the house.
  • North Wales is an outdoor adventure mecca. With Snowdonia in one direction and the coast in the other you can turn your hand to watersports, mountain biking, even trampolining in underground caverns or ziplining over deserted quarries.
  • After a lazy day playing croquet and Molkky in the garden, weep down the grand staircase and tinkle on the baby grand piano before pre-dinner drinks in the drawing room.
  • Wales is the castle capital of Europe. Visit a few on day trips: we love the majesty of Conwy Castle, where streets and a harbour snake beneath its battlements; the ruins of Denbigh Castle, and the civilised splendour of Chirk.
  • Foodies keep an eye out for Hawarden Estate's feasts with guest chefs. Alternatively, our favourite family friendly meal is Bonni’s Pizza van - a converted horsebox making amazing pizza which pops up at different locations each week.
