The Experience
It’s an adventure just getting here down a farm track on the edge of the mountain. The moment you arrive at Mountain Cottage you’re swept up in the view: sit on the front door stoop and dream. The house is a traditional mountain dwelling, transformed from a ruin but utterly unspoiled, its uneven stone walls and internal window shutters unusually, delightfully intact.
The living area, warm, woody and open plan, is the hub of the house, with a fireplace centre stage and a big comfy sofa. The kitchen has all the pots and pans you need, superb views for the cook and a Rayburn to churn out the heat. Bedrooms are lovely and each window has a view.
Outside: mossy walls, bracken and wildflowers in spring, a small natural swimming pond for cooling off in summer and utter peace and quiet. Stock up in Pwllheli – just a short drive, stride the coast path round the peninsula, tackle the Snowdonia National Park on foot or by bike.

Wow! What a location and what a simply magical cottage. We had wondered if it was a little remote but although completely secluded, it was only minutes to the beach and restaurant. The very best of both worlds. We left feeling relaxed - it was a perfect holiday.

Our stay at this wonderful cottage was fantastic! It was super comfortable, very well equipped and the bed linen was impeccable! Secluded and set in the hills of Llithfaen it gifted us the most beautiful views of the Llyn Peninsula, while we were well accompanied by our neighbors the sheep and cows that gracefully grazed in its beautiful pastures. This is exactly what we needed for a rested stay. We did follow the advice Kate carefully provided as to the best placed to eat delicious. We definitely recommend the experience! :)

Location
The neighbourhood
You're utterly remote here with wonderful walks in each direction. You're on the edge of the Lleyn peninsula for marvellous coastal walks with more views or, just a bit inland, woodland and hills. There are good surfing beaches on the northern coastline and safe sandy ones on the southern edge. Explore castles, take the train to Snowdon, or hire bikes.
Local points of interest from Mark Ellis
- Amazing beaches around the Lleyn Peninsula including Llanbedrog with its mile-long stretch of sand, and the sandy, sheltered beach at Abersoch which is perfect for families. Water sports galore - surfing, sailing or wake-boarding!
- Excellent walking and birdwatching - wander up to the nearby Celtic fortifications!
- Snowdonia National Park is a short drive away and offers incredible scenery and wild walks;
- Local towns of Pwllheli, with its large marina and backdrop of Snowdonia, and Porthmadog for shops, brewery, cafes, are close-by.
- There are plenty of climbing and cycling opportunities - contact us for bike hire.
- The castles of Criccieth, Caernarfon and Harlech - gloriously located and worth a visit.

Introducing
Mark Ellis
Mark has done all the restoration work himself on the cottages over the last ten years or so. He lives in London so you let yourself in with a keysafe and feel nicely independent although there are emergency numbers for folk nearby if you need anything.
We had a wonderful week at Mountain Cottage. The setting is superb with long range views towards Cardigan Bay and the mountains beyond. The cottage was very well equipped, clean and welcoming. We loved the peace and quiet but also that we were within an easy drive to beautiful places to visit and walk ~ Anglesey, Abersoch, Whistling Sands and slightly further, Harlech. It’s a really good base to explore the area from. We even enjoyed a ‘refreshing’ dip in the swimming pond!
