The Experience
At the sleepy end of town, at the top of a peaceful street, with views across the rooftops to hills and sea, is this simple stone cottage, all spick and span. Enter a big, bright, Scandinavian-style space, all whites with subtle accents of colour, new oak floors and painted beams, characterful fabrics and furniture.
At the far end is the kitchen – the hub of the house. Upstairs are the bedrooms, cosy with seaside colours, enormous beds and plump white duvets. Find tea, coffee, milk and logs for cosy nights in on arrival. The sunny garden, just across the lane, is a treat in the summer.
Come with the kids: Newport Sands is a big breezy beach that you can drive your car on to; Newport Parrog beach is tidal, with a slipway for boat launching and a lively boat club. Great pubs, fascinating shops and little eateries are a five-minute walk. Try Tides, an excellent fish restaurant.

We arrived as dark was settling in. The cottage looked very picturesque, situated just below the church at the top of the street, and as we opened the front door were greeted with a wave of warmth which immediately made us feel we were home. Bryn Y Wawr has the charm of an old cottage, sensitively combined with every modern convenience. Every need has been thought of and catered for in terms of comfort and practicality, plus Caroline has a lovely eye for design! Loads of DVDs & books, plenty of logs for the wood-burner and lots of maps & local info added up to a wonderful stay. Thank you!

Cosy, well appointed cottage complete with sheltered garden. Newport is in an excellent situation, at the mouth of a river, by the sea and with hills behind. It’s perfect for walking, shopping, including a lovely little market on a Monday, and generally relaxing. This was our third visit and we will be back.

A warm and comfortable cottage with all amenities set in a quiet street, but just a few minutes' stroll from pubs, cafés, restaurants and take-aways - most of which we sampled in our week and thoroughly enjoyed. We also lapped up the easy walking along the coastal path and other routes a little further away (all great for birdwatching). We sought out Caws Cenarth, In The Welsh Wind Distillery, Curlew Weavers, the National Wool Museum and Cenarth Falls. All in all, this cottage is ideally located for exploration and is great to come back to each evening. I suspect that we will return...

Newport is a lovely small town on the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast. Bryn y Wawr is on a quiet road close to all amenities and a short walk from the sea. The cottage is very comfortable, perfect for 4 and well appointed. It’s cosy in poor weather and the lovely secluded garden is great for good weather. This was our second visit and it certainly won’t be our last!

We had such a lovely week at the cottage, which is very well situated for both getting about the area and for the pubs and cafes in the town. We very much enjoyed seeing local sights including St David’s, the blue pool at Abereiddi and Porthgain. The cottage also has lots of lovely walks on the doorstep - we particularly liked seeing the sun set over the Parrog. Thanks for providing a very well equipped, sparkling clean home from home.

Charming, cosy cottage in the centre of this delightful town. Decorated in lovely muted seaside colours and equipped with everything you might need. The owner thoughtfully provided tea, coffee and milk. There is a lovely log burner, which was very welcome in the chill of winter. Very dog-friendly and the cottage is a couple of minutes walk from 3 dog-friendly pubs and a fabulous dog-friendly cafe. Beautiful walks along the estuary and beach. A great place to unwind

Bryn-Y-Wawr is our winter escape. My partner and I have been for the last four years, each time staying for a week. We absolutely love the cottage and feel it is a home from home. The cottage has everything you need and is within a very short walk of the village centre which hosts a number of local pubs, restaurants and coffee shops. The setting is truly picturesque with amazing walks. Turn right out of the cottage and you can walk up Carningli Mountain for truly breathtaking views overlooking Newport and the sea. Turn left out of the cottage and you're a short walk away from Newport Bay

We just love this house and have been back time and time again. Its in a great location being very close to the shops and market, the mountain and of course the beaches or estuary walks. The house is beautifully decorated and equipped with lovely touches from gorgeous welsh soaps to bunches of freshly picked flowers. We just feel it is home from home and always look forward to going back. Needless to say we already have our next stay lined up and cant wait.

I have been to so many UK holiday cottages in my time but this one stands out as being one of the best in every way. A lovely location, lovely town, everything you could possibly want for a very happy fortnight or short break. Good walks, coffee, bread, restaurants, beer, landmarks, beaches... The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, comfortable, well-maintained. Caroline clearly takes enormous pride in running this holiday let and has thought of everything. I can't recommend this place highly enough and it would be equally lovely in the sunshine or the rain.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're on a quiet street just around the corner from shops and cafés. It's a 5-minute walk to join the stunning Coast Path, brimming with wild flowers in spring and summer and along which there are inlets for swimming or kayaking. Birdwatchers will head to the estuary and the Teifi Marshes, a Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve. St David's is a half-hour drive for the cathedral; Narberth, 40 mins.
Local points of interest from Caroline Crofts
- Forget the car - you're a ten minute stroll from the Pembrokeshire Coast path. Take your binoculars for the bird life on the estuary, laze away some hours on the beach, hire a kayak, or explore the dramatic cliff top scenery.
- Or head for the hills - climb up to Carn Ingli for a panoramic view - you might see Snowdon on a clear day. Or explore the Preseli Hills by horseback or bike, before heading home to one of the friendly local pubs, cafes or restaurants.
- The local Spar never seems to shut, but there is also a butchers, a great deli, a post office and chemist. Check out the wide variety of local art and crafts too.
- On a Monday morning, the adjacent street is closed for the lively market, selling tempting local food, plants and crafts - pick up a souvenir or linger over a coffee at one of the lively cafes.
- If you prefer to explore further afield, the popular Gwaun Valley, with its local brewery and valley walks, are a short drive away, or visit Pentre Ifan, the nearby historic burial chamber, or Castell Henllys, an iron age fort.
- Alternatively, spend some time discovering the ancient city of St Davids, with it's beautiful cathedral - look out for the queens seat and take a break at the popular cafe, before heading home to your cosy cottage.

Introducing
Caroline Crofts
Caroline and Paul used to live in Gloucestershire and often had holidays in Newport, eventually buying the cottage as they loved being beside the sea. They love the city for its foodie and arts vibe, the lovely walking and the wildlife. Paul is a stone carver and still sells in a gallery here.
Fabulous week in this pretty and cosy cottage. Very well thought out to provide a relaxing and stress free week. Lovely area to sit out at the front and a secluded garden too. Newport is a great village with everything you need within walking distance. You wouldn't even need to drive anywhere if you didn't want to. Amazing views and very good food all within walking distance. Great to have a parking space too. We would definitely go back!
