The Experience

Cleverly converted from a mix of farm buildings, the house blends original features with modern touches: Welsh slate roof, timber rafters, ancient stone walls with big windows, a generous kitchen, a ground source heat pump and colourful art on the walls.

Warm, unfussy and inviting, it’s the perfect spot for small groups or multi-generational stays with four bedrooms on the ground floor (one of which is best for children and reached through the master bedroom) all sharing two simple, spotless bathrooms. There’s heaps of space to cook and eat together in the kitchen or out on the gravel patio overlooking the lawn.

Walk to Aber Bâch (small) and Abermawr (big) beaches for picnics, rock pooling, a dip if you dare. Return to squishy sofas and a roaring fire in the cosy mezzanine living room. For rainy days there are books and board games. Melin Tregwynt, a working woollen mill is a stroll away for lunch and gorgeous fabrics.

Local points of interest from Fiona Buchan

  • Treseissyllt Hafod was previously a range of farm buildings and part of Treseissyllt Farm which Fiona and her husband Edward converted into a holiday house in 2004.
  • It is no more than a 15-minute walk down a private track to the beautiful coastline. Take the dog for a walk and an evening picnic and watch the sunset over the horizon and spectacular clear starry skies.
  • Bring your binoculars for birdwatching and take lovely walks along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and marvel at the carpets of wildflowers on the banks, cliffs and hedgerows in Spring and early summer.
  • Enjoy Pembrokeshire’s fabulous bird life, uncrowded sandy beaches and pebbly coves and puffins on Skomer Island.
  • Tregwynt Woollen Mill is within easy walking distance where you can watch blankets and rugs being woven and find their well-stocked shop and a great café for breakfast, lunch or tea.
  • Explore Bishop’s Palace, Porthgain and old slate quarry, Abercastle harbour, Lower Fishguard, Neolithic burial chamber at Carreg Sampson and many castles. Visit art galleries, coastal adventures and activity centres, sailing clubs and marine centers.

Introducing

Fiona Buchan

Hafod was once part of Treseissyllt, a working farm which stretched all the way to the sea. Farmed by Fiona’s father for nearly 50 years with sheep, horses, barley and early potatoes, the land is now mostly owned by the National Trust. Fiona and her husband, Edward, restored the old farm buildings and stables that you see today and it is much loved by themselves, their four children and eight grandchildren.
