The Experience

Walkers, cyclists and nature lovers will be happy: space for muddy boots, an outdoor hosepipe for the dog, homemade Welsh cakes and an honesty fridge with all your favourite tipples. Breakfast is brought to your room: Greek yogurt pots with homemade granola, fruit compote from the garden in season, home-baked bread, smoked salmon bagel or a bacon sandwich, croissants with homemade jam – lots of veggie options too.

You eat at a table in the window looking at the views or a bank of flowers opposite with the sound of the stream. Each south-facing room has its own bathroom with underfloor heating, Myddfai soaps and fluffy towels. Wind down with a glass of wine at sunset on your own little terrace or wander the paths through the stream-fed garden to a little lake and a nature reserve with bird hide.

Set off to explore through fields of sheep and an ancient chapel; tackle Pen-y-Fan, bring bikes – this is God’s own country.

Wonderful stay. Super comfortable, delicious breakfast and the views are sublime. Our whippet Monty was incredibly happy to find another whippet (owners) to play with. Thank you for your hospitality - we will be back ☀️

Kate, Oxford

This is simply the best of the best “Hidden Gems”! The amazing hosts John and Clare welcomed us like long lost friends and showed us to our hide away room. The views are spectacular and there is an air of tranquil refinement. The amazing hosts left us to our win devices but were on hand when we needed recommendations as to where to go or where to eat. Thank you for an amazing stay .

Simon, Penshurst

A superb place to stay. Spotless room, comfy bed, great shower and the table and chairs looking out onto the garden made it a very relaxing and enjoyable. So quiet at night too. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious and served to our room. Clare and John were lovely hosts and really helpful. Their attention to detail meant that everything was just right. We really appreciated them sharing their lovely garden with such amazing views. It was a fabulous place to stay with our dog and we look forward to visiting again.

Joyce, Nottingham

What a fantastic place this is. Great for a relaxing break. As others have said, the hosts are charming and very helpful. Our dog loved the open spaces and the large pond. The location is good as a base for walks as well. Cwmbach lodge is definitely worth a visit.

Martin, Usk

An outstanding place to stay. Wonderful hosts, glorious room with spectacular views, and the most divine breakfast delivered to my room. Couldn't have asked for more! We will go back.

Rachel, Hong Kong

Cwmbach Lodge is an outstanding and truly luxurious B&B, made even more special by its amazing hosts. We loved absolutely everything about our two-night stay - a very warm welcome, an exquisite room and breakfast served in the room. We hope we can return soon for a longer stay as Cwmbach Lodge is so brilliantly situated for both serious hiking and visiting Hay. Bravo Clare and John!

Karen, London

What an amazing place. Quite possibly the comfiest bed I have ever slept in. The views are incredible. I didn’t want to leave. Thank you John and Clare

Catherine, Lincoln

If you are looking for a warm welcome, comfy rooms, stunning view and fabulous hosts, look no further. We only stayed one night but wished we had stayed longer, next time we will. Dogs are welcome. Clare and John (the hosts) were full of ideas of places to visit, they are very lovely.

Carol, Leeds

Wow what a place! We stayed here whilst we were attending the Hay Festival and it was great to come back to such a comfortable and friendly place at the end of a long day. The room was beautifully clean with super comfy bed and the option to have breakfast on our own private patio which allowed us to look at the stunning view! The breakfast choices were perfect and it all appeared on a tray at our door at our chosen time. All in all a fab place to stay, will certainly be rebooking.

Sarah, Exeter

Fabulous! Clare and John are so hospitable and fabulous hosts. What an amazing place to stay: our room Butterfly has stunning views of the surrounding hills. Lovely spacious room, with a huge really comfy bed, luxurious bathroom and super breakfasts that set us up for the day. Plus an honesty bar and fridge for you to enjoy a nice glass of wine at the end of the day. Absolutely gorgeous: this is a first class very special place to stay. Can't wait to return.

Jonathan, Bristol

The perfect place to get away from city life. Our room called Bee had the most stunning views over the mountains. There are plenty of places to relax in the garden other than your room. Delicious breakfast brought to your room. Clare and John are very welcoming. Ideal to take a dog as we did. Highly recommended.

Nicola, London

Fantastic Place. Beautiful rooms, really comfortable beds, great showers, top breakfast. Incredible views, and fabulous hosts. Difficult to speak highly enough of John and Clare who literally have thought of everything to make our stay memorable. We will certainly be back.

Richard, London

We were bowled over by the warm welcome and generous hospitality from John and Clare throughout our stay at Cwmbach Lodge. The accommodation was of a very high standard but also felt very comfortable and homely; we could really relax from the moment we arrived. The expansive gardens can be explored, where we encountered a whole variety of wildlife. Gazing over the glorious gardens towards the Black Moutains that lie beyond was truly stunning. We particularly enjoyed the vista over breakfast and could dine outside thanks to the warm weather. We could not have wished for anything more.

Steven, Bristol

Walkers, nature lovers and cyclists will be outdoors all day. But it's rather a good place to stay in and be lazy too.

Clare was a practice nurse and is Welsh born and bred. John, a retired chartered accountant, is from Huddersfield. They are both gardening mad and they'd always dreamed of running a B&B. Well-travelled (they lived in New Zealand for two years), thoughtful and fun, they enjoy making guests happy and nothing is too much trouble.
