We recently sat down with our friends at Sophie Allport to explore the inspiration behind their beautiful, nature-inspired designs. From the rolling hills of the British countryside to the peaceful charm of coastal retreats, Sophie’s homeware collections are infused with the beauty of the natural world. Whether it’s a buzzing bee, a delicate dragonfly, or the serene beaches of Norfolk, Sophie’s designs tell a story of connection to the world around us. Perhaps her inspirations will encourage you to explore a place close by! Here’s what Designer and Founder Sophie Allport had to say about the places and moments that spark her creativity:

A love for the great outdoors

“I’ve always been inspired by everything around me,” Sophie shares. “Living in Lincolnshire means I’m constantly surrounded by the beauty of the great outdoors. Whether it’s spotting deer or sheep grazing in a field, hearing the gentle buzz of a bee in the garden, or catching a glimpse of a dragonfly darting across the summer sky, there’s always something happening if you take a moment to pause and notice it.”

Nature plays an important role in Sophie’s designs, allowing people to bring the outdoors into their homes.

Beginnings in the garden

Sophie fondly recalls her very first design, Busy Bee. “It was inspired by my three boys, who were obsessed with insects and bees in our garden when they were younger. One day, I decided to paint a bee, and from there, everything took off.” The Bee collection has remained one of the brand’s most beloved collections, adapting over the years while staying true to its beginnings.

A return to roots

After studying in Leeds and working as a freelance illustrator in London, Sophie eventually returned to the Lincolnshire countryside. “Growing up here was lovely, and I always knew I’d return. It’s a place where I feel grounded,” she says. With three dogs in tow, Sophie’s countryside walks have become a personal escape and a source of inspiration. “The changing seasons, the fresh air, and the quiet beauty of nature often bring new ideas to mind.”

Coastal escapes

For Sophie, the North Norfolk coastline is another significant source of inspiration. “It’s not too far from where we live—just a couple of hours—so we love heading there for a weekend getaway with the family. The vast, open beaches are breathtaking, where huge stretches of sand meet the endless blue sky. We’ve been working on something special for Spring Summer 2025, so watch this space.” These tranquil retreats offer space to recharge and reflect, often sparking fresh ideas.
