The Experience
The honey-hued stone farmhouse is light and spacious with a big kitchen for group cooking (or hire the private chef), a table made for long conversations, toys and games for children and heaps of books. Le Mazet is perfect for two escapees from the main house and is just as pretty with tiled floors and heavily beamed ceilings. The whole place is geared up for families, especially the heated private pool.
The local bakery delivers fresh croissants and bread some mornings if you order the day before, supper can be waiting for you on your arrival day, country walks lead from the houses and you can hire bikes to explore local markets. Wander the gardens and help yourself to fresh fruit and nuts in season, buy organic vegetables from the smallholding next door.
Only the sound of distant church bells disturbs the peace and quiet. As the sun goes down light up the barbecue or get cosy round the fire.

We have just returned from the most wonderful week at Le Mas and Le Mazet. It's not that we were trying to but we could not find one single fault. Rupert and Franck have clearly thought of everything - the beds are exceptionally comfortable, their restoration is remarkable, every angle and viewpoint is carefully considered and the views and pool are epic (I could go on and on). If you are looking for a relaxing haven amongst fascinating, beautiful countryside and with impeccable hosts then look no further.

We are an American family of four (boys ages 10 and 12) and we had an absolute dream two weeks at Le Mas. We both took time to enjoy the house and the pool and grounds but also ventured out for tours of gardens and castles as well as did a lot of biking and a day of canoeing. Rupert and Franck have created the most beautiful and most hospitable experience. And the region is non stop interesting. We would definitely return and I knew it from the minute that we stepped out of the car and took in the view of Le Mas and countryside beyond.

Amazing location, all the trimmings in a beautiful setting. A very warm welcome at Le Mas et Le Mazet! A beautiful farm with great outdoor space where you can relax, a nice saltwater swimming pool and plenty of space. Also games (boules, table tennis, archery) and views... you have a beautiful view of the rolling landscape. Inside, the houses are beautiful and attractive, with a fireplace, beautiful (sleeping) rooms and fully equipped. We enjoyed it here with three generations of family and look back on a wonderful week.

Once again a wonderful spring week in the beautiful Dordogne hills! Le Mas was great for the six of us - kids and grandkids upstairs at one end of the house, the two of us at the other end, with the dining room / kitchen and living room on the ground floor as our common play grounds. We swam in the pool every day except the rainy one; we had lunches out in the neighboring villages, shopped the local markets, and cooked supper at the house. Walked the fields and woods, canoed 12 km on the Dordogne, spotted a black stork, heard cuckoos (both exotic for Americans) and totally relaxed.

We arrived at the Le Mas and Le Mazet and I immediately felt I had made the right choice. The fire was lit and a bottle of wine was on the table, our hosts Rupert and Franck were even nicer in person attentive, knowledgable and passionate about what they do. I see why they are so popular and booked up, this kind of attention to detail in hospitality you come across all too rarely. Well done to you both we are looking to return with the family and enjoy the pool and the outside kitchen this time. A very special place.

We have just returned from our wonderful family holiday at Le Mas et Le Mazet. We loved every minute. It is a magical place with stunning scenery, peaceful atmosphere and is incredibly well equipped for a superb holiday. The quality and attention to detail is phenomenal. Rupert and Franck are extremely kind and helpful. The property is finished to a very high standard with comfortable beds with beautiful bed linen, luxury White Company products in all bathrooms. We enjoyed the heated pool and had lots of family fun and games. We look forward to returning in the future.

This year we made our 7th trip to Le Mas & Le Mazet. The location is incredible. The view from Le Mas is also entrancing and bucolic; haybales, sunsets and chateaus all from the stunning outdoor kitchen. The property itself still really stands out, even all these years on, maintained inside and out with phenomenal attention to detail. During your stay the owners Rupert & Franck are on hand if you need them but practically invisible if not. Each visit it feels more and more like home from home. We countdown to our next visit from the moment we leave!

There are no words to describe the beauty, splendour and magnificence of Le Maz. The buildings and grounds are simply spectacular. The design, amenities and appointments are luxurious and everything you could want or need is there. The views and location are second to none. But the greatest is part of Le Max is Rupert and Franck (and of course Plum). Kind, generous and funny they really add to the experience and you can feel their influence throughout the property. Nothing is too much trouble and they are wonderful. Repeat stays recommended!

Rupert & Franck have created holiday heaven! Their property is on site but they manage the balance of being available (they are a mine of local info!) & allowing privacy for total relaxation. We loved visiting Millie to pick organic veg (some of which was included in our welcome goodies) and we enjoyed long lunches & dinners outside everyday. The local area is beautiful with lots to do but you will want to get back to this special place as soon as you can to squeeze every drop out of your time there! We very much hope to return…..

Having stayed for the first time in 2022, we had no hesitation in booking again for 2023. Franck and Rupert are excellent hosts, and nothing is too much trouble. A wonderful week was spent lying by the pool during the day followed by eating and drinking in the outdoor kitchen in the evenings. The kids loved the pool and all the games, whilst the adults appreciated the variety of places to find some much needed peace and quiet. Both properties have everything you could possibly need to make it a true home-from-home. I have no doubt we will be back again, as long as we can find some availability

This marked our second visit to Le Mas, having celebrated my 40th birthday there with friends five years ago. On this occasion the party was a little different as we brought three little girls with us, who loved the house and grounds as much as we do! They were overjoyed with the pool and were in there every day for most of the day! It was wonderful to see Rupert, Franck and Plum again. Such a special place that I want to keep it a secret as it is hard enough to book as it is! If you get the chance to go and stay, grab it with both hands. You won't be disappointed.

Le Mas is a gem. The house was somehow more beautiful than the pictures. The owners have thought of everything and were gracious and accommodating. We were a group of artists and found tremendous inspiration in the grounds and local sites. 10s across the board! Would definitely like to return in the future.

Where to begin? Everything was exceptional. Rupert and Franck have created an amazing property - warm and inviting, spotlessly clean, comfy beds and stocked with everything you need. Beautifully designed from the kitchen, to the bedrooms, and the lovely living area. As hosts, they provided a welcome basket, recommendations for restaurants and sights, and excellent communication. We spent 7 unforgettable days enjoying the view and pool, cooking and eating in the outdoor kitchen, going to markets, taking long leisurely walks and visiting nearby villages and restaurants.

Location
The neighbourhood
From the houses you can glimpse the hamlet of Sainte-Croix with its 12th-century church, 2km away. The nearest restaurant in Montferrand-du-Périgord is 3km away. Hike, go horse-riding and hire bikes, canoe or swim in the river. Within 15 minutes' drive (9km) are two bastide towns, Monpazier and Beaumont. Both have restaurants, shops and weekly markets, and Beaumont has a night market in summer.
Local points of interest from Rupert Springfield
- The Daily Telegraph reviewed us online with a score of 9/10 and The Sunday Times published an article about us in February 2022. Links on our website. The French Ministry of Tourism has awarded Le Mas with 5 stars.
- Sawday's included Le Mas & Le Mazet in their 30 ‘Why Wait?’ Places for 2021 and their 30 Most Popular Places for 2020.
- There is a great 30 minute walk from the house past a 12th century church with original wall paintings, through a wood to a ruined castle towering over a beautiful Dordogne village, ending at a restaurant serving drinks and delicious food.
- Prior to your holiday we'll send you information about the great restaurants in the area which we can book for you, bike hire delivered to Le Mas for you, and massages, pilates and and yoga in the garden.
- We can arrange for a private French chef (who had a Michelin star for 8 years!) who can cook for you at Le Mas. We also have a local baker who can deliver your croissant and bread order in the mornings.
- Situated on top of a hill, the houses offer stunning uninterrupted views over the surrounding countryside and the 12th century church, whose bells you can hear across the valley.

Introducing
Rupert Springfield
Rupert worked for many years for charities and as an antique dealer; his Dutch husband Franck was a theater producer for Cirque du Soleil. The farmhouse was completely renovated in 2016 by the interior designer Joris van Grinsven, who respected the history and character of the building but brought it bang up to date.
When I first saw the video of Le Mas et Le Mazet online it evoked such an emotional reaction in me that I cried. It looked enchanting, beautiful and peaceful and I just had to book. We stayed for a week in October and I am so grateful we did. Everything about the house, location and holiday was just wonderful, we couldn’t have asked for more. Rupert and Franck are on hand for questions/ directions/ recommendations- anything you need really- which puts you completely at ease knowing you are taken care of. Don’t hesitate to book, you won’t regret it Xx
