The Experience
The barn sits on the outskirts of the village next door to the owner’s other holiday cottage – each have their own private entrance, but if you’re a larger group you can take both. It’s newly restored, open and airy with high beamed ceilings, big bedrooms and an open-plan kitchen/living room at its centre. Sit and chat with a gin and tonic on the outdoor covered area or have al fresco meals on the terrace round the corner. Children will love the plunge pool which overlooks a walnut orchard. The village is beautiful, there are Michelin starred restaurants nearby, including Le Vieux Logis and a quirky hillside eatery called Les Truffiers. A 30-minute stroll will take you to the river beach where you can canoe, water ski or rent a pedalo. Explore the wonderful cave at Lascaux or visit many good markets – Le Bugue, Bergerac (home of Cyrano) and Périgueux – but Sarlat on a Saturday is best of all. The welcome basket in the well-equipped kitchen includes a bottle of local wine to sip under the stars in peace.

Absolutely amazing trip, I planned my engagement in tremolat France. She said yes! The beautiful setting helped make it so memorable and special. Long walks through the French country side to eating great food at every restaurant and market we visited.

What a gem ! A delightful host that made sure we had everything we needed. She even sorted out a babysitter for us ! The cottage is in a beautiful quiet village. It was immaculately clean and very nicely decorated. The pool was a real bonus and the children spent plenty of time in the water - both in the pool and at the nearby watersports facilities in the village. The weather was fabulous when we were there in August but I would like to return in cooler months to do some walking and explore the surrounding villages. 15 min walk to village where there are a few restaurants and a grocery shop.

A really nice base for exploring this part of the Dordogne. The barn conversion is spacious and well-equipped and the thoughtful owners have done everything to make it comfortable and welcoming. It's about twenty minutes walk from the centre of Tremolat, where there are several good places to eat, and fifteen minutes or so from the station, which allows for day trips by train to Bergerac and Sarlat. We had a very enjoyable week here.

My wife and i spent 5 weeks in France, anchored by our stay in Tremolat, which was a fantastic small town, perfectly located to explore the Dordogne region. Les Chouettes had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. We enjoyed the wood fire and TV choices on some cool evenings in October and the people in the town are lovely. We hope to get back there again.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Karen Carter
- Tremolat Village is only a 20 minute walk away. It is the home to the 11 Century Church of St Nicolas. It also hosts 4 wonderful restaurants (one is the famous michelin star Le Vieux Logis) a quaint wine bar, a Boulangerie and its own Tourism office.
- The Cingle to Tremolat attracts many visitors. This is the bend in the river that gives rise to some beautiful views. If you are energetic you can climb or cycle to the top. The Restaurant Belvedere has the most spectacular view from the garden.
- Nearby villages such as Paunat and its Abbey church was built in the 12th Century is a must to visit. Chez Julian is a well known fabulous restaurant. My favourite village is the Bastide Limeuil on the banks of where the Dordogne and Vezzere Rivers meet.
- If you are a golfer we have any fabulous golf courses in easy reach of Les Chouettes we can direct you in any direction. Our favourite is at Chateau les Merles at Tuilliers.
- The Dordogne valley is notorious for is beautiful chateaux, castles, wonderful markets where one can buy delicious fresh ingredients to create a lovely meal at the end of any day. We can organise a tour to the chateau wineries or a home tasting.
- There are many annual festivals from Truffle, Foie gras, Chocolate, Wine, Mushroom and many summer festivals. Come and visit the history the area has to offer such as the 100years war- Beynac et Cazenac, Castlenaud, Sarlat-la-Caneda and many more.

The Barn has been sympathetically developed from a traditional building and brought into the 21st century. Guests have lots of room to relax even if it is a rainy day as the C is quite large and has quite a few nooks for relaxing; as well as outdoor spaces and garden with private access to the pool. The village of Tremolat is easy walking so guests can enjoy life here as well.
