The Experience

On the outskirts of tiny Saint-Cadou is a 17th-century presbytery flanked by two houses, a place of serenity and charm. Ben and David, generous to a fault, have created four immaculate gîtes at the end of the lane… and if you’re a couple, you can do B&B.

Choose between Hayloft (kitchen, wood-burner, sweet sunny garden) and Stable, an adorable studio with sliding doors to its own patio. Generous breakfasts are delivered to your door: croissants, pains au chocolat, lots of fresh fruit, yogurts and fruit juices. Gentle walks can be had from the door, you can fly-fish at lovely Lake Drennec (a 5-minute drive) or hop on the bikes and cycle the Voie Verte.

Stay at home and try your hand at pétanque, visit the family games room for pool table, table football and electronic dart board (safety darts) – there’s also a big screen for family film nights which you need to book ahead. Great fun for families.

Reviews

A charming, comfortable gite, well equipped and in a peaceful location in a small village in a lovely area of Brittany. Ben and David were great hosts, around but quite discrete. Would certainly book again if we visit that area again.

Ann, Cambridge

We had a wonderful week with Ben and David. The Stable is compact but every detail has been thoughtfully planned. Comfortable bed, lovely linen, scrumptious breakfasts and peaceful surroundings. This is a perfect base from which to explore the wild and wonderful north west corner of Brittany.

Alison, Moreton-in-Marsh

Brilliant place to stay. Great food if you want it. Wonderful host. The place is old but the interiors are bang up to date, clean and well maintained. Lovely village and pub and great local restaurants

Location

The neighbourhood

The French come for the Monts d'Arrée and Drennec Lake, where they can enjoy watersports like paddle boarding, kayaking and having sailing lessons. There are two sandy lakeside 'beaches' that are great for families. The closest pub is in the village and does serve food. There are some spectacular sandy beaches within 20-45 minutes, and Brest is 45 minutes for major museums and galleries.

Local points of interest from Ben Dickins

  • Kergudon Gites are sited in the heart of the Monts D'Arree in a natural park. As such you are spoiled for choice for walking, cycling or horse-riding routes in stunning scenery including the highest points of Brittany with their breath-taking views.
  • Equidistant from the north, west and south coasts of Brittany, each with their own character and charm, you can choose from long sandy beaches of the Crozon peninsular, the Pink Granite coast to the north or rockier inlets and estuaries of the south.
  • We are 3 kms from the beautiful Lac du Drennec. If you enjoy fishing, this is one of the best fly-fishing lakes in France. You can swim in the clean, fresh water from one of its 2 sandy beaches, or hire a kayak or paddleboard from the watersport centre.
  • There are many interesting villages, towns or cities within easy reach. Brest & Quimper are the largest north and south respectively for those who need an escape from rural Finistère or Locronan, Morlaix, Huelgoat and many others are worth a visit.
  • If food's your motivation we are within easy reach of excellent restaurants, many traditional Breton creperies and there are many weekly markets to buy fabulous produce to create your own meals.
  • While a small, rural village St Cadou is surprisingly active for a village of its size boasting a lively dog-friendly pub, boulangerie and active Comité des Fêtes. If you're here when one of the many Fest Noz's take place it’s definitely worth attending!

Introducing

Ben Dickins

Ben, ex-Royal Navy, and David, a fitness instructor, previously lived in London but escaped here (Brittany is what they would love Cornwall to be) and have been running the gîtes and B&B since 2015. They are both very friendly and welcoming and happy to chat.
