The Experience
The setting is superb: open views over sloping fields, rippling grass in summer, the breeze hinting at the sea, and huge skies. Plomodiern is a mile away, the beach is 25 minutes down the path – this is a fabulous place for a family. You approach down a short country driveway that splits into two, each side leading to a gîte. Yours, the largest, is furnished in modest Breton style, its front door opening directly into the sitting room. Find a two-seater sofa on a new-tiled floor, dark wood furniture and a huge fireplace (logs generously provided), and the lovely scent of woodsmoke lingering in the air. Down a corridor is the kitchen, simple but with all mod cons (from dishwasher to coffee maker); up under the eaves are the bedrooms, and a landing for an extra bed. The ground-floor bathroom, with its walls of polished cement and walk-in shower, is super-duper modern. A mecca for paragliders and walkers, Brittany’s only mountain is a hop away, and Douarnenez is famous for its regattas. After eating and stocking up in Plomodiern (there’s a great crêperie), return to a cider on the patio… and the views.

This is a lovely well equipped house in a beautiful setting with fields rolling down to the sea, The local beaches are spectacular and not at all busy with wonderful fresh seafood and there is a Michelin starred restaurant near the house. Best of all is the wildlife in the local area, red squirrels, coypus, kingfishers and all kinds of birds and lizards and wonderful boat trips to see dolphins. Agnes really cares about her guests and ensured there was a wonderful selection of local information about walking and wildlife, We loved every minute.

Location
The neighbourhood
The area is a nature lover's paradise, a wild landscape of beaches and sea, Cornwall as it used to be – all you'll hear are the gulls and the birds. You'll find shops and a Friday market in Plomodiern (one mile), and an outstanding restaurant, L'Auberge des Glazicks, whose young chef is a master of 'terre et mer' cuisine. The coast is close for sailing, fishing, paragliding or yachting.
Local points of interest from Agnès Le Jollec-Tanguy
- Walks on your doorstep. Beaches 4kms
- Situated halfway between Quimper and Brest, closed to the Armorica Regional Nature Park and Crozon peninsula.
- Sailing, paragliding, water sports, sand yachting, fishing... not far from the cottage
- Many festivals throughout the region in summer
- Conveniently located for visiting the cultural heart of Brittany (Museums and gothic cathedral in Quimper, the medieval village of Locronan, Douarnenez....)
- Organic fields around the cottage, perfect for birds and bees and many walks into nature!

Introducing
Agnès Le Jollec-Tanguy
Agnès has lived and studied in Paris, worked in teaching and agricultural management, and studied law. She had the great opportunity to do an internship in a solicitor firm in the UK, before starting to run a legal business in France and to take over her family farm and buildings. She has since learned all about running an organic farm, producing cereals and other crops in the surrounding fields.
This feels like you have a French friend whose family has a little place in the country where you can come and stay. It's impeccably clean, yet the lingering scent of woodsmoke and traditional atmosphere anchors you firmly in Brittany. This is the opposite of a hotel chain: it's authentic, historic and personal.
