Les Trauchandières de Saint Malo

Lovely comfortable house with charming owners who served a very welcome cup of proper English tea with biscuits on our arrival. Claude is an interesting man with some interesting views and it was fun to sit and chat with him over tea. His recommendations for local restaurants was excellent and we enjoyed a delicious meal in a local restaurant less than two miles away. The room was very comfortable and we enjoyed a hearty breakfast sat by a roaring log fire and chatted away with Claude and Agnes. A very convenient stop over for the Ferry, we will definitely be going back

Staying with Claude and Agnes was a perfect end to our holiday - beautiful house, delicious breakfast, very welcome tea and cake when we arrived after a long journey - comfortable bed in stylish bedroom and bathroom - lovely chats with Agnes and Lily - great location for exploring the area and then catching ferry home...thank you and a bientot!

We had three very enjoyable days staying with Claude and Agnes, who were especially warm and welcoming. We had long, lazy breakfasts with them both, with plenty of sea and sand to explore in the afternoons. Dinners at a small local restaurant in St Meloir were a delight. Our room was large and very comfortable, with a short, discreetly-lit stair to the ensuite bathroom. We felt we had met friends, and would happily return in the future.

The great front door swung open to reveal a colourfully dressed Agnès with a beaming smile. It was the sort of heart-warming welcome I have come to expect from Sawday hosts. The magic was felt immediately, reinforced by tea and cake at a wrought-iron table on the gravelled space between the house and the mini-parkland beyond.

This is a truly exceptional place to stay with the most welcoming hostess, Agnes. Our room was spacious and clean with a modern wetroom - we had everything we needed. The breakfast is fantastic and you get to eat with the owners. The history of the house is fascinating, make sure to ask Agnes to tell you all about it. The garden is superb too. We only stayed for two nights exploring the region, but could have easily stayed longer. Added bonus - our dog was most welcome.

This is an extraordinary house, made largely of huge beams and very interesting history. Agnes is American and Claude a retired French businessman. Interesting conversations and all enlivened by the presence of three young grandchildren. Very comfortable room and a lavish breakfast. Again, a most enjoyable experience. I would add that the house is in the middle of nowhere so a good Satnav or basic directions are essential.

Fabulous. One of our most wonderful.holidays! It had everything, beauty, comfort, peaceful and relaxing yet entertaining, hospitality and rural setting. Claude and Agnes extend their home into a charming B&B. Our family still talk about the delicious breakfasts. Our son played in the garden and on the grand piano. The location enables swimming in local beauty spots, cycling, aquarium, visits to Dinan, Dinard, and Mont St Michel, all wonderful and a drive away. And there was so much still to do, we stayed a week and loved it. Highly recommend it and many thanks to Agnes and Claude.

I booked two nights to celebrate my husband's birthday and couldn't have made a better choice. The owners Agnes and Claude were very welcoming, interesting and really fun people. The chateau is absolutely amazing. Our bedroom was very comfortable with a modern ensuite and all in all it was a wonderful weekend. The breakfast was delicious, fresh croissants, Danish pastries. Fresh orange juice. Eggs and bacon and much more. We can't wait to return.

We had an very special stay with Agnes and Claude who looked after us so well. The house is gorgeous and bursting with character. They recommended and booked a fantastic restaurant for us and the whole experience, for our whole family was truly a highlight of our holiday.

We received a very warm welcome from Claude and Agnes, with tea and biscuits on fine china, which was very pleasant after a hard day's driving. We enjoyed a first class meal with a good wine, in excellent company with our host. Our room was large, with charming décor and a very comfortable bed, ensuring a good night's sleep. The en suite was excellent. We enjoyed a superb breakfast with a full English if we had wanted it. The building itself is full of character and history. We would highly recommend a short or long stay here. They also offer a self catering gite. We will return.

We stayed two nights in this very special place. Wonderful bedroom, with quality bedding, deep pile carpet, and a comfortable bed. Bathroom was a dream. Champagne by a roaring fire before dinner. Candlelight table with wonderful food, and superb wines . Breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice, boiled eggs, fruit salad, fresh pastries and bread. Claude was a wonderful host. We stayed here for 2 nights in July with our 3x children, on our way through to a holiday in Brittany. We have stayed in many B&Bs over the years, but never have we had such a genuinely warm reception. Agnes and Claude could not have been more accommodating and welcoming to our whole family - offering to collect us from the nearby town when we got lost, chatting with us over tea in the drawing room and friendly to our kids. They were so generous with their time that it felt more like staying with old friends, rather than in a guest house. Excellent value for money.

Thank you Agnes and Claude. Wonderful hosts. We were greeted on arrival with a welcoming cup of tea then quick change and drinks in the lounge before a delicious meal in the dining room, candelabra lit and fire burning. Breakfasts were an event too. Would thoroughly recommend.

Agnes and Claude are the most charming hosts and their Malouinière is one of the most special houses we have stayed in! So near St Malo, yet deep in the country. We were a party of 3 generations and appreciated very much the loan of bikes and Claude taking us and bikes in his van to our cycling route. Both Agnes and Claude are a mine of information on the local area (and indeed the rest of the world!) Excellent breakfasts and very comfortable rooms...we loved it!

Wonderful entertaining hosts who are enthusiastic about sharing the history of their beautiful home. The room respected the history while offering every modern touch we could need, plus a comfortable bed! Difficult to find - directions needed on website -- but a real find, once you're there!

An incredible stay in a beautiful home built in the 1700's. Hosts Agnes and Claude were beyond kind and thoughtful with our children and accommodated every request with grace. I just wish we could have stayed longer in this serene place. I could eat incredible breakfasts like the ones Agnes and Claude serve (homemade jams, warm pastries, fruit, perfectly boiled eggs, hot tea - all in gorgeous crockery) every day! A wonderful place to stay before travelling home from St.Malo. We had a warm welcome from Agnes and Claude, the charming owners, and a lovely meal with them that evening. We will definitely stay again, and would like it to be longer than overnight next time. A beautiful historic house, spotless rooms, we would give them 5*****

What a wonderful few days we spent in this lovely, historical house. We had the warmest welcome from Agnes and Claude; champagne on arrival,recommendations for restaurants and visits,reservations made if needed and the most comfortable beds ever in rooms beautifully furnished with family antiques. Homemade breakfasts with fruit from the garden, locally made jams and fresh croissants were a delight. Agnes is a great cook and our evening meal was delicious with wine chosen by Claude from his cellar. It's a perfect place to stay for catching the ferry or if you want to explore Brittany further.

My wife & I really enjoyed our time at Les Trauchandieres. Agnes & Claude gave us such a warm welcome ( with wine by the fire !) on a very cold night. The house was inviting & beautifully decorated. It was obvious that it is a real family home. Our bedroom was spacious & the bed was first rate. What a great sleep we had. We are very interested in historic homes & we enjoyed every minute in this one ! We are already planning our next visit - in the spring so we can experience Agnes' many gardens.

The house was characterful and charming, like our hosts. The accommodation is very comfortable: furniture – antique; bathrooms – up-to-date. The right order. We booked into Malouiniere-des-Trauchandieres for one night, to break up the trip back to Cherbourg following a stay at a rather basic farmhouse in Southern Brittany. After sampling Claude’s brilliant breakfast – varieties of sweet and savoury fresh breads, eggs, home-made jams, local fruit and fun cereals for the children – we felt that our holiday had just started. Of course the opposite was true, but it was a great send off. Recommend
