The Experience
Imagine two serene bedrooms in the tower and views across the river to forests beyond… beauty at every turn. This mellow stone hunting-lodge dates from the Renaissance.
On fine mornings, Sophie serves breakfast at tables in the sun: breads, jams, fresh orange juice, homemade crepes and Far Breton flans. Set off for the lovely old port of Vannes (40 mins) for ferries to the glassy Gulf of Morbihan and its 30 green islands. Or follow the well-signed track that runs across the dunes and wetlands of Suscinio, from the castle of the Ducs de Bretagne to the wild Atlantic. Avocets, egrets, and white storks abound. Book the Nordic whirlpool bath and sauna by the hour for free.
For small restaurants, galleries and shops, pop into the much-loved village of Rochefort-en-Terre, 2km. An adventure park and a gentle watersports lake are five minutes further. And if you’re wishing you could come with friends, you can: four spacious gites await by the pool.

We stayed in a tower room for 3 nights & we would have loved to stay longer. The Manoir is gorgeous, facilities great & the decoration & attention to detail & calm just what we were looking for. The pool was beautiful & warm & a good size for proper swimming. Sophie & Dominic are lovely & the perfect hosts. Breakfast was a delight with tasty home made jams & the perfect outdoor setting. A 5 minute drive away there is plenty of very good restaurant choices so ideal. Thank you we will be back to stay :))

Manoir du Vau d’Arz is situated in a delightful setting in the Bretagne countryside, close to the picture postcard town of Rochefort-en-Terre. We had a lovely stay in one of the stylish, air-conditioned, well-equipped and comfortable gites with plenty of opportunity to relax by the pool. The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful and provided great recommendations on local activities and restaurants. We can’t wait to return!

If I wanted to escape to a charming B&B in the heavenly countryside, go for endless walks past rivers inhabited by otters, explore coastlines with chateaux and tiny islands, or just sit under the apple trees in the orchard or sunbathe by the pool, I would want to stay here. The owners are true blue Bretons and they could not be nicer or more enthusiastic. B&B heaven with otters thrown in the deal!

Location
The neighbourhood
Surrounded by five acres of protected parkland, the setting is sublime. Set off on one of several walks from the house, or into Rochefort en Terre, a village so authentic it could be a film set. Discover creperies, pizzerias, and the tiny Maison Cachée, with an open kitchen and beautiful food. There’s even a neo-Gothic chateau to visit, and a very charming bookshop with a café.
Local points of interest from
- A 15-minute train ride will take you to the well-renowned city of Vannes. This historical town's foundations date back to the Roman era. Wander around town and admire the ancient architecture, explore the traditional markets, and enjoy Breton gastronomy.
- For hikers, the GR38 and many other paths offer walks with magnificent views over the rocky landscapes and hills of the Arz Valley up to the foothills of the Landes de Lanvaux
- Sea lovers will enjoy the beaches of Morbihan. The Grande Plage de Damgan is located 30 minutes from the Manoir. Discover the Rhuys peninsula and the Beach of Suscinio where the castle of the Dukes of Brittany dominates.
- For cyclists, there are plenty of signposted ‘bike’ routes that will allow you to discover Rocherfort-en-Terre, you can roam the sandstones and join the Voie Verte number 3 and the Nantes to Brest canal.
- Fishing fanatics can explore the Arz River, a good opportunity to tease trout, pike and carp. There's something for everyone - water sports, zipline, escape games and more.
- For nature lovers, it is not uncommon to come across roe deer in the park and you can perhaps observe the very discreet otters.

We cannot recommend Manoir Du Vau D'arz more highly. We had a magical stay at Sophie and Dominique's. We are a family of four with two young children and we were made to feel so welcome and at home. The gite was beautiful and brilliantly equipped, and there was plenty to explore nearby including some stunning beaches. The local village is very picturesque with great places to eat and drink. It is a gem of a place to stay. Thank you for such a happy holiday. We look forward to our return stay.
