The Experience
Such a peaceful, verdant setting. Sitting in the valley this unusual tower obviously didn’t serve any military purpose but deep window sills and thick walls mean it is gorgeously cool on hot days and warm in the winter. The living area has comfy seating, lots of books and games for rainy days and lovely views. In the kitchen you’ll find all the basics you need for cooking.
Spill onto lawns and terraces for al fresco meals, a game of boules or simply a snooze on a lounger in the shade. Wander through the orchard (yes do pick the fruit in season) and meadows full of wildflowers in spring and summer. Further are walks through forest or along footpaths to the village for shopping and restaurants. On Sundays you’ll hear the Benedictine monks from the monastery overlooking you sing mass.
Gather and cook local ingredients or ask Louise to prepare something for you – she makes a cracking Boeuf Bourguignon.

This place is my idea of a heaven! - a pretty, peaceful rural spot to get back to nature with my teenagers. I would be happy to not see my car for a week and do everything on foot. I might try to book during the apple-harvesting season just to catch a glimpse of the local monks climbing up into the trees in the cassocks, to pick the fruit!

Location
The neighbourhood
This is fabulous walking country with many footpaths around the valley. A ten-minute slog uphill will take you to medieval Flavigny-sur-Ozerain where you can visit the abbey or their sweet factory and eat at a barn where the farmers' wives serve meals at huge trestle tables. Wine tasting is abundant, the Burgundy canal system has wonderful cycling along tow paths and there is lake swimming nearby.
Local points of interest from Louise Dean
- The Abbaye of Fontenay, a UNESCO world heritage site is just 20 minutes from the Tower, well worth a visit and allow extra time for the magnificent gardens.
- The Grange restaurant in the village of Flavigny is run by the Farmers wives using produce from their farms, very casual seating at trestle tables, good quantities of food at reasonable prices.
- Flavigny sur Ozerain is classed as one of the most beautiful villages of France, also famous for the film Chocolat that was turned in 2000 with Johnny Depp, Judy Dench and Juliette Binoche….never seen the film? we have it on dvd in the house.
- Alesia, a gallo roman site just 10 minutes from the Tower where it is said that Caesar and his troops won the battle against Vercingétorix, great learning center for children and adults with daily battles and craft sessions.
- Flavigny village organises cultural events throughout the year, musical festivals, the amazing boot fair on Saint Simons day, over 100 window creches displayed at Christmas time, art exhibitions and much more.

Introducing
Louise Dean
Louise has lived in France for over 30 years. She and her stonemason husband Gerard have restored the tower - they have a keen eye for a beauty spot. They live nearby and you let yourself in with a key safe, however Louise will come and introduce herself on your first morning. She's a fount of local knowledge and can cook for you if you want.
What a fabulous setting. Louise & Gerard have created a truly peaceful retreat, where I could easily see myself relax for a few days! Sit out contemplating the trees, listening to birds, enjoy the cosy rooms of La Tour. On cold days a wood burner comforts you. Louise mentioned a few walks that I can't wait to try, and a detour via the new local brewery seems a must! Flavigny too is full of charm.
