The Experience

After an astoundingly beautiful drive you reach this handsome family house built by titans of the cement industry at the turn of the last century. Inside, the rooms are a delight. Three are works of art and a touch of fun. Swish bathrooms shine with monogrammed towels and showers of Italian mosaic. Family suites at the top of the house are huge.

Come for extraordinary food (both hosts are gourmet cooks): breakfast in the conservatory on fresh croissants, baguettes and pancakes with fruit, cheese, homemade yogurts and hot chocolate. Dinner, served around one big table is a four-course treat, preceded by an apéritif with fellow guests.

Don’t miss the world-famous Fontenay Abbey or delightful Auxerre for cafés, shops, restaurants and La Musée de l’histoire naturelle (48km). Mosey down the Yonne river or Canal du Nivernais; alight for wine tastings.

Reviews

Authentic France! The most considerate hosts. Fantastic food. Lovely rooms (have stayed in 3 different ones). Have stayed 5 times, will undoubtedly stay again. A real experience that always forms a highlight of our holiday.

Howard, Bristol

Relaxing place to stay. The interiors are furnished with antiques. Colourful and interesting. Spacious and extremely comfortable. Our suite had two bathrooms, three bedrooms and a living room. Magnificent meal with lots of locally sourced ingredients. We enjoyed conversation with fellow guests. Our children were given lots of attention and made to feel welcome. The atmosphere was relaxed.

We had a wonderful night’s stay in this lovely house. It is beautifully decorated with family antiques but also with very tasteful touches of modern fabric and ornaments. There was a lovely fire in the sitting room where we sat after one of the best dinners ever. Stephane is a wonderful cook and the Oudots are a charming and welcoming couple in a very natural way but not intrusive. Our room Leonie with bathroom, was so comfortable and pretty, as are the other rooms, and we slept like absolute logs. This was our third stay. We recommend it to friends who equally enjoyed their visits.

What a beautiful place to stay! A relaxed and warm welcome from the start from the lovely Natalie and Stefan. They were fantastic hosts always offering recommendations for places to go and so helpful with booking tickets etc. The pool was great and a real bonus, the room was big and beautiful and the food was amazing! I could go on.....

Tracy, Bristol

Great location and wonderful peaceful setting. Our bedroom was stunning and overlooking the extensive gardens. We had dinner in the gardens as we had not booked for what looked like great dining - and the breakfast indicated it was probably as good as it looked! Both Nathalie and Stephane have excellent English and are great hosts.

We travel a great deal for work and this is now one of our favourite B&Bs. This was our second visit which was even better than our first. Natalie and Stefan have just the right mix of informality and professionalism. The house and rooms are comfortable and very pleasant and dinner is to die for, on both occasions we met fascinating people and a wonderful time was had by all. I couldn't recommend this place more highly.

The neighbourhood

Although a good stop-off between Calais and the Med, La Cimentelle is even better as the destination itself. For dining out, your hosts recommend Les Cordois Autrement in Vault (10-minute drive) and if you have time, visit lovely Beaune and its immaculate creamy-cobbled streets.

Introducing

Nathalie & Stéphane Oudot

The house has been in Nathalie's family for generations and with her husband Stéphane, they have been restoring it for the last decade. Wonderfully welcoming and chatty hosts, they speak good English and of course, are excellent cooks.
