The Experience
Rob and Jason left demanding jobs to turn this graceful 19th-century merchant’s house into an elegant, relaxed home. Stone stairs curve to two floors of bedrooms, soft with silvery colours, chandeliers and chic bathrooms. Balconies with French windows look over the town or gardens of the nearby château. Painted in the subtle hues of Farrow & Ball and beautifully beamed, the open-plan living space is coolly stylish with antique mirrors, books and oversize table lamps.
The kitchen is sleek, sociable and well-equipped for self-caterers, or B&B guests get breakfasts of fruit, breads, cheese and eggs on request. Ask about day trips; explore harbours and beaches. If you stay for a week you’ll even be invited on their speedboat – perhaps topped off with a visit to one of their favourite restaurants. Gentle hosts, serene surroundings, a communal apéritif on some days.
Visit pop-up beach cafés, oyster bars, wander to the town square.

What a wonderful place to stay. Jason and Rob are the best hosts, so welcoming and informative, very laid back, making our holiday everything it should be. A beautiful house just a few minutes walk from everything in lovely Meze. The beach, restaurants, and twice weekly market on the doorstep. Perfect!

In sweet little Mèze on the Thau Lagoon where oyster beds decorate the gleaming water, is this fine old townhouse. Charming, chatty Rob and Jason will greet you with juice and expert guidance to local delights. Chandeliers hang in smart grey and silver rooms - one with its own terrace; modern bathrooms are original. You will find real comfort here - and riches out there in lovely Languedoc.

Lovely house, hosts & welcome. We were in Mimi on top floor which was a luxurious room with a very comfy bed, roll top bath & sep shower and even beach towels in bag! The large communal first floor is a beautiful space with interesting books and feels like a home even for a short visit. The guys are great company if you want to chat and offer complimentary wine and tea & coffee and nibbles. They really have thought of everything in creating this gem and we enjoyed a lovely stay and look forward to returning.

Our third wonderful stay at Meze Maison--this time in peak season. The view over the chateau grounds from the Jojo was especially lovely. Rob offered his well-maintained bikes--rode on the terrific dedicated bike path nearly to Sete. Fresh and delicious breakfast--Rob provided a special sheep's yogurt and luscious melon. A new refinement--a chic lamp and stylish desk/chair--added yet another attractive convenience. Beaches were active but still plenty of room. Easy walk to lively Thursday market. Luxurious bed linens/towels; thick curtains help late sleepers. Easy parking. Highly recommend!

Superb getaway--from the gorgeous interior design to the sparkling hospitality. Rob and Jason are ultra accommodating and so much fun. Apero time is always delightful. This is our second visit in 10 months--can't wait to return. Stayed in the Louis for two days--oversized & hugely comfy bed with luxurious linens. Breakfast includes fresh fruit/cheeses and decadent pastries. You're sure to be spoiled.

Warm and informal - Rob and Jason were excellent hosts and helped us way beyond the call of duty with car problems. Their home is stylish and super-comfortable, and Meze a charming place to relax, swim and gorge on local seafood. Many thanks indeed for a wonderful start tour holiday!

It was an absolute pleasure dealing with Rob the owner in advance of our visit. A superbly restored and impeccably renovated building which Rob and Jason have decorated beautifully with great style. Whilst Meze itself may not have too much too offer, this lovely property is worth the stay there and its a central and convenient base for this lovely part of the south of France. Parking was arranged for us which made it so much easier. A word of caution, there are stairways that need to be negotiated! We liked the thoughtful complementary guest bar facility too.

Stunning hotel with fabulous hosts. We spent a week with Rob & Jason in Meze. We were welcomed with a glass of rosé and shown the exquisitely decorated salon which is for guests to use throughout your stay, complimentary soft drinks all day. Aperitifs & nibbles served daily from 6.30. We stayed in JoJo room with a super comfortable bed & a balcony overlooking the chateau. We had a dressing room with walk in shower. Meze is a lovely village with plentiful restaurants & beaches. We cannot praise rob & Jason enough, they are truly generous and made our stay in Meze the best holiday we have ever had

Location
The neighbourhood
Mèze is an active little ex-fishing town with an old château and a newly-planted municipal garden. You're very near the main square so you can walk to shops, cafés and markets. Hire bikes and set off round the Étang de Thau, learn to sail or kayak down the Hérault rapids (depending on the water levels), or hurl yourself in for a wild swim. The Languedoc awaits exploration, as do vineyards.
Local points of interest from Rob Budden & Jason Clifford
- Mèze Maison is a 19th century wine merchant's house that used to belong to the local chateau de Girard. It sits in the centre of the old town overlooking the castle and its gardens, a short walk to all amenities.
- L'étang de thau lagoon with opportunities for swimming, fishing, kayaking and sailing is less than a five minute stroll from the property. Book a week's stay with us and we will take you out on our speedboat, maybe to a waterside restaurant!
- Mèze is home to a wide array of restaurants, many serving fish and shellfish from the l'étang de thau. The lagoon provides France with its renowned Bouzigues oyster which is often served with the local Picpoul wine.
- Mèze is surrounded by vineyards, many of which produce award-winning wines. We can advise on which domaines to visit for wine tastings and tours.
- Mèze is a short drive away from the medieval town of Pézenas, once home to the playwright Molière. The vibrant city of Montpellier with its leafy squares and wide esplanade is a 30 minute drive. Both have good bus links
- Mèze has a daily indoor market and a twice weekly outdoor market (Thursdays and Sundays) selling local produce and arts and crafts. There is a local cinema which shows French and English language films. There is a weekly night market in the summer.

Introducing
Rob Budden & Jason Clifford
Rob and Jason, who met at university, are chatty and welcoming - they clearly love having guests. They moved here permanently in 2013 and have never regretted it. They both speak French and have thoroughly immersed themselves in the Languedoc, so do ask them about the best places to eat and things to do.
John and I stayed for 5 fabulous nights highly recommend this beautiful place to relax. The hosts Rob and Jason are great it feels like family. Thank you.
