The Experience

Breakfast is a feast of fresh bread, croissants, yogurt, jams, cheeses and hot drinks, all served on lovely crockery at the big guests dining table in the Annexe outbuilding. A covered terrace is perfect for eating outdoors on sunny days. You can also have dinner cooked for you three days a week or a plateau-repas at the Atelier, which has its own living area.

In a pretty outbuilding, the double has an old tiled floor and Provençal quilt, and looks onto the garden from the ground floor; the suite’s twin has the same tiles underfoot, beams overhead and high wooden beds with an inviting mix of white covers and red quilts. Views from all the bedrooms are over nothing but greenery and you’ll feel very peaceful.

You’re just outside the quiet village of Ivoy-le-Pré, remote and with lovely views, lots of forests on the doorstep and by a small lake. There are many hiking and cycling trails from the door and a shelter for bikes on site.

Reviews

We had such a lovely time at La Verrerie. The setting is wonderful, near a lake, surrounded by countryside and woods. We stayed in the Annexe with our baby, and everything was made easy for us by our kind and friendly host Marie. We loved the old tiled floors and the character of the place, and it was great to have use of the salon, perfect for our little one to play in. Very special.

Agnes, Sawday's Inspector

We spent a wonderful 6 days at La Verrerie with our two children age 8 and 13. The Atelier is the most beautiful little house we have stayed in, decorated wonderfully by Madame and spotlessly clean. La Verrerie itself is absolutely gorgeous, with countryside and forests everywhere, lovely walks right from the house and a little lake opposite. It is blissfully calm and peaceful. The swimming pool was the children's highlight - right outside the Atelier, it was heated at over 26 degrees and a perfect size. We cannot recommend La Verrerie enough. Anyone would be lucky to stay there.

Thomas, London

What a delight and the most delicious dinner - beautiful setting in the depths of the country - very many thanks.

Sally, Kent

What a lovely stay at La Verrerie. We were driving up from the South so chose to self cater as we weren't sure of guaranteeing our arrival time. In fact we were over an hour late due to torrential storms but Madame was unfazed & charming. A well equipped kitchen meant we could still prepare supper & eat in style in the very attractive dining room. Bedrooms & bathrooms were all immaculate & extremely comfortable. After a much needed night's sleep we were greeted by a marvellous breakfast, which included homemade confitures & a simply sublime apricot & almond tart. A return visit is a must.

Delightful welcome; fabulous dinner on the lawn overlooking the trout lake complete with resident kingfisher. Room was beautifully clean and comfortable. Just what we needed after a day exploring the countryside and old towns.

Location

The neighbourhood

There are good walks straight from the house. The village is 2.5kms away and has a small bar/restaurant, a deli and a bakery. The nearest big town is Aubigny-Sur-Nère, 15 kms for fascinating links with Scotland, very well preserved half timber houses, churches, museums and restaurants. Sancerre is half an hour in the car for wine tastings and La Borne (10 kms) has a contemporary ceramics centre.

Local points of interest from La Verrerie d'Ivoy

  • Good base for discoveries near the town of Aubigny sur Nère, former Scottish Duchy of the Stuarts, the region of Sancerre and Bourges, a medieval town.
  • Address on the roads of the Sancerre and Menetou-Salon vineyards, and near the international ceramic center of La Borne (Henrichemont).
  • Bocage landscapes and the edge of the Ivoy Forest with its ponds constitute a quality natural environment.
  • Within a radius of 15 to 20 km, there are good restaurants to discover.
  • On-site table d'hôtes reservation or kitchen available to guests.
  • We offer a warm, family welcome - children are welcome too.

Introducing

La Verrerie d'Ivoy

The Saporta family manage the forests, farm and hunt, and although they don't speak much English, they enjoy doing B&B and are charming and thoroughly hospitable. Their son Guillaume speaks better English however, and also helps run the B&B and estate.
