The Experience
You have this rustic place all to yourselves and you’re surrounded by acres of rolling wooded countryside so the peace is deep. The pool is gorgeous and so is the terrace with its lounging area – sun or shade, complete with barbecue.
Picnic on smooth lawns, wander the beautiful garden to discover an orchard of peaches, plums and pears – yours to pick when ripe. Eat honey, goat’s and ewe’s cheeses produced just down the road.
Stroll into 11th-century Montrésor for the freshest bread and pâtisserie, visit Loches for its twice-weekly market. Wild swim or boat in the lake at Chemillé, hire bikes locally. There are châteaux and wines to discover too.

Tranquility writ large at La Challerie. My husband and I enjoyed a lovely two weeks stay here. We have been staying in gites in France since 1980s so are reasonably experienced. The best compliment to pay is we would, and hopefully will stay again. The grounds are spacious with various seating and eating areas so always somewhere to sit in the sun. The pool is large, clean and gated for safety. Table tennis was great fun. Montresor is lovely and the cafe serves good food, not to be missed! Loches and Amboise worth visits plus numerous chateaux. Highly recommended

We had a great time in this beautiful house and gardens. It was very comfortable and quintessentially French. We loved the exposed stone walls, exposed beams and the comfy sofas and big dining area. There were good kitchen facilities and the bedrooms overlooked the extensive garden. Pool area is great and very private. All in all, it was very peaceful and a great base to explore Loches, Chenonceau and Beauval Zoo where the Giant Pandas are a must see. Montresor was a good local base for provisions.

A comfortable 2 bedroom house in the Loire, in a large private garden with fruit trees, near the beautiful village of Montresor. Two bedrooms upstairs with a bathroom downstairs & separate toilet. The large pool is fully fenced & a very comfortable covered seating & lounging area. The kitchen is well equipped and sunny. The house was very clean & well decorated. The living room has loads of character, & is comfortable, with lots of reading material and games. This cottage is in the country & there is a short pleasant 20 min walk through the fields down to Montresor. La Challerie is well sit

Location
The neighbourhood
La Dependance is in a very special place - settled to one side of a tiny hamlet of five or six house and surrounded by open fields and woods, there is a glorious sense of peace and quiet. But only 1km away is Montresor, one of France's 'Most Beautiful Villages' with shops, restaurants, a bakery with a Parisian patissier and a really charming chateau. This is a village with life and passion - son et lumiere, art exhibitions, parades, meetings and a great social meeting point. Only 15km away is one of the World's top ten Zoos.
Local points of interest from Henry & Susanne Dixon
- For wine enthusiasts, the area is famous for its excellent fresh Touraine Sauvignon white wines. Red – Gamay, Cot and Cabernet – are plentiful, easy drinking everyday wines at reasonable prices too.
- The Tourist Office - set in a troglodyte cave - in Montresor has details of all attractions including 'son et lumiere' productions, theatre, markets, children's attractions, famous zoo, festivals, 'brocantes' and antiques fairs, mushroom caves
- The ZooParc de Beauval is only 20 minutes away. Ranked one of the top 10 zoos in the world, the zoo is a great family day out. See lions, giant pandas, rare birds, and live shows with flying birds!
- ‘Un des plus beaux villages de France’, Montresor has a citadel with two chateaux and the classic 12th century village hugging its feet. It is within easy reach of Tours, a major city of France with attendant culture and shopping attractions
- La Dependance is a one-kilometre walk via a track (or two by car) from Montresor, which has a bar, restaurant, bakery, supermarket, pharmacy, bank and tourist office, where good English is spoken.
- Unlike some Gites, guests at La Dependance have the whole 2 acre property to themselves. The owners make sure they are never there at the same time and that visitors can enjoy the lovely pool, with big shaded pool area, table tennis and peaceful setting.

Introducing
Henry & Susanne Dixon
Sue and her husband feel very lucky to have stumbled upon this place many years ago. When they arrived there was one water tap (cold) and one light bulb in the whole property. They’ve completely transformed it and raised their, now grown up, children here. Many of the wider family come back with different generations and all love to play in the pool and relax under the ‘auvent’. They hope you love it as much as they do.
A special and beautiful place, we had a wonderful week most of which we could easily have spent by the gorgeous pool in the tranquil gardens. But tearing ourselves away Montresor is lovely as are the many other chateaus and towns in the area.
