The Experience

Huge windows and elegant mirrors play tricks with the light, the sitting room is high-ceilinged and well endowed with soft places to land – there’s a chaise longue by the window for dreamers and the bedroom entices with watery views. The shower is in here too, it’s an intimate place. You can cook in the small, well-geared-up kitchen or order welcome and breakfast baskets ahead.

Wander outdoors to enjoy the gardens and admire the manor house which dates from the 16th century and is flanked by its old guard towers. Swim in the shared pool (open from 10am to 7pm), doze on loungers in the sunshine, or set off on walks through stunning countryside spotting many birds.

The brave can cool off in the river, there is a good local market twice a week, restaurants a short drive and you can hire bikes and join the Voie Verte from the garden. You’ll be happy to return to your lovely studio bolthole with its calming colours and soothing views.
