The Experience

This fine traditional townhouse hides behind vast cedars on the edge of the village. Behind its walls lie warmth, exuberance, good humour, windows flung open to let in light and fresh air, and Jean-Lou’s vibrant paintings. All feels friendly and unpretentious: a den-like sitting room, a comfy leather sofa, wonderful books, an open fire. Two bedrooms are in the main house, two are accessed via the studio, heaving with paintings and brushes. All this and a charming garden, throngs of fruit trees, a few loitering hens and, best of all, table d’hôtes at which food and wine flow. B&B at its best.

Reviews

Superb B & B with delicious meals - have stayed several times when making a journey through France. Hosts are so welcoming and friendly. Paintings by Jean-Lou and wonderful cooking by Martine who will always share her recipes.

Colin & Eve, Bury St Edmunds

Well, that was a three days stay to remember! What a brilliant place to be for a couple of days. Not so much for all the chateaux, places and resto’s in the regio - there are plenty good hotels and B&B’s - but for the warmth of the welcome, the good spirits of Martine and Jean-Lou, the fun, the conversations and the wonderful cooking by Martine. Jean-Lou was extremely royal in filling the glasses with the excellent wines of the Cher vineyards. He introduced us to a very special domaine where we bought delicious Sauvignon and Gamay for very neat prices. The stay was impeccable!!

We have stayed with Martine and Jean Lou regularly over the years and it is always a pleasure. You will receive a warm welcome in peaceful garden setting, local wines and superb meals.

Russell, London

Martine and Jean Lou are the perfect hosts. Good food, wine and company at the dinner table and all the rooms hung with examples of Jean Lou’s stunning paintings and tapestries. A delight. We’ll be back.

We enormously we enjoyed our second visit and so hope to be able to come again. Their home is inspirational, the food and wine generous, lovingly prepared and truly delicious, and they are the kindest of hosts, with enchanting smiles and a lovely sense of humour. As before, the conversation was fascinating. We felt that it was a great privilege to be given such a warm welcome into their wonderful home and surrounded by so many of Jean Lou's seriously good paintings. A heart-warming experience that is without price. Their situation by the Cher is charming: a lovely, unspoilt area.

We stayed at Le Moutier for 5 nights in April. We were very warmly received and enjoyed our visit immensely. Martine’s cooking was wonderful and the hospitality we received from Jean Lou and Martine was exemplary. We particularly enjoyed our visit to the neighbouring winery and our morning walk through their garden to the banks of the river. We would love to return.

Marion, Haslemere Surrey

To be hauled out of our baking car and sat down with a bottle of cold Sauvignon Blanc was just wonderful, especially as our hosts shared it with us in their cool salon. One wall was hung with a huge tapestry of Monsieur’s design: magnificent. Later we were called down that beautiful staircase for a sumptuous dinner, starting with more wine, continuing with yet more and concluding with - you guessed it! The charmingly rambling garden contained a fish pond dominated by amazing frogs croaking as loud as quacking ducks. A wonderful stay, and much owing to our hosts’ participation.

The welcome was, and continues to be extremely warm and friendly. Martine’s cooking is always excellent, using many home-grown fruit and vegetables, and Jean-Lou is very generous with the (locally grown) wine. Add to this the conversation and ambiance and we feel as we might do dining with any good friends. The guest rooms are clean and comfortable, each one different, the walls adorned with Jean-Lou’s own paintings. … All this is situated in delightful gardens and we could not wish for a better way to end our vacation in France.

Peter

We have been returning here for ten years or more, and never tire of Jean-Lou and Martine's generous hospitality. Martine ensures that each visit holds different culinary experiences, whilst Jean-Lou ensure's that his guests never have an empty glass. Our favourite Sawday venue.

Peter

A memorable 1-night stay in the company of the English guests who have been visiting for 10 years. The house is fascinating, Jean-Louis's art inspriring, and Martine's meals terrific, the bi-lingual conversation stimulating, and in a location which demands much more than a one night stay. We intend to return!
