The Experience
This 1800s house, built by one of Napoleon’s generals, sits comfortably in mature gardens. The smaller front garden leads through double gates into the village, perfect for morning croissants or lunch at two simple restaurants. The larger back garden has a covered seating area, lawns large enough to kick a ball around, cedar trees and an orchard.
French Grey shutters invite you inside to a delightful treasure-filled home with family heirlooms, artwork, antiques, original hallway tiles and a magnificent carved wooden staircase. Relax with board games on squishy sofas; sit, chat and cook together in the warm kitchen, it’s well equipped for family feasts. Upstairs bedrooms are inviting for adults and children alike with three bathrooms shared between five rooms.
Located between Tarbes and Auch, with its historic cathedral, and only 20 minutes from Marciac, famous for its jazz festival, you’ll be very happy here.

Location
The neighbourhood
This sunny, southwestern corner of France is heaven for foodies. The village is fine for basics and simple meals, but head to local markets to stock up on super produce to cook at home or splash out at Les Prés d'Eugénie, a Michelin-starred restaurant in the spa town of Eugénie-les-Bains. Cycling is popular, châteaux abound and Lourdes is a 50-min drive. Pau, Toulouse and Biarritz are further.
Local points of interest from Ashton & Jila Shuttleworth
- The property was built by one of Napoleon's Generals, Pierre Leglise, who was also a son of the village. His military record is on display in the downstairs cloakroom. The area has a rich history from Knights Templar through to WWII.
- The village has three bars, a convenience store, baker, butcher and newsagent (TABAC). There is also a Credit Agricole Bank with a cashpoint. If you drive 15 minutes you have the larger market town of Mirande with greater choice of supermarkets.
- We are a 20 min drive from Marciac with its world famous Jazz Festival every summer. Well known artists such as Gregory Porter, Jamie Cullum and Santana regularly perform. Cultural/religious pursuits are spread around the region such as Lourdes and Auch.
- We are just over an hour from the Ski slopes of the Pyrenees, affording family friendly experiences in the mountains during the depths of winter. Lake swimming is less than half an hour away at Lupiac or Castelnau Magnoac. Tree parks can also be found.
- The Gers gastronomy continues to grow with more and more eclectic establishments emerging from Far Eastern/European fusion at Sandikala through to Michelin stared gourmet at Prés de Eugénie in Eugénie les Bains, all within an hours access.
- If nature is your thing, the clean air and clear skies will fill your soul. Wildlife is everywhere with red squirrels in the garden, migratory Hoopoes, deer and wild boar (Sanglier). Buzzards and the occasional stork hang around the fields.

Introducing
Ashton & Jila Shuttleworth
This is a much-loved family home and has that warm, welcoming feel. Ashton and Spanish/Iranian Jila now live in Spain but her Persian influences can be seen in the colourful rugs and lighting while Ashton's mother, who is an accomplished artist, has many paintings adorning the walls.
It's a fabulously comfortable, warm home, very tasteful, elegant and fun decor, ideal for all ages and multigenerational families with enough space for everyone both inside and outside.
