The Experience

Fall in love with parquet floors, double doors, tall windows, blazing fires, and portraits of the ancestors, including the dogs. This château has been home to the Roquefeuil family for generations, and you’ll feel right at home from the start.

Breakfast is for foodies and history-lovers: a bountiful buffet of homemade treats at a huge table in a magnificent room. Explore the ponds; take drinks to the island; meet ducks, hens, donkeys, and Titi the cat. Set off for glorious Mont St Michel, one of France’s wonders – only 20 minutes. 50 minutes away is St Malo, its old town destroyed in the war but since reconstructed. Stroll the ramparts for incredible sea views.

Return to books, games, billiards, grand piano…and perhaps a late afternoon swim. Relax in gorgeous bedrooms spread across three floors. The final pleasure? Table d’hôte with fellow guests in the former farmhouse, cooked and hosted by Erika, or a more intimate meal in the Grand Salon.

Reviews

I think this place is really great, and the charming and enterprising hosts have come up with lots of solutions to clients' needs, especially during the pandemic. Breakfast to go for people catching morning flights from Paris, the 'boccaux' meals for those not wishing to dine with other guests, railway transfers, and they have clearly made a big effort to accommodate their guests' four-legged friends.

Location

The neighbourhood

The huge grounds, resplendent with trees, ponds, a small island, chapel and a few converted farm buildings are surrounded by a field of cows and farmland. Don't miss in tiny Saint-James (8km), the beautiful, very moving American WWII Cemetery. If you head out for dinner there are numerous restaurants within a 10-25 minute drive - ask your hosts for their recommendations.

  • Explore Normandy and Brittany spots from Boucéel: Saint Malo, Cancale, Granville, Dinan, Dinard, Fougeres, Bayeux, Dday beaches.
  • Discover the WWII comic story made by Arnaud de Roquefeuil (grandfather) during the war. This recently appeared on a French TV Documentary. An amazing testimony of the war and occupation times from the inside.

  • Discover Mont Saint Michel with our local guides: village, abbaye and bay. They will happily share with you the nature and history of this amazing place.
  • Spend some time in our Grand Salon. A beautiful Louis XV Salon, which wooden panels and Versailles parquet floors are the most exceptional French 18th century "savoir faire" example.
