The Experience

Bubbly Nathalie loves to cook and gives you breakfast in the high-ceilinged dining room or on the terrace it overlooks. You choose from a menu the night before: yogurts, cheeses, locally-made organic jams, eggs in any style, fresh fruit salad and pastries, cake and breads. Also Kusmi, Yogi and iced teas. Relax afterwards under a parasol by the large lawn with herbaceous borders and many roses climbing both up the house and the mature trees.

The suite has twin beds in one room and a double in the other, sharing a bathroom and a private sitting room. The other bedroom has a sitting area in the room and all have enormous mahogany beds from Indonesia, antiques and views; locally-made soaps and lotions scent the bathrooms. It’s quiet too with only birdsong and the odd car passing the high stone walls.

Walk into Ducey for a couple of good traditional restaurants or join a section of the Paris to Mont Saint-Michel Voie Verte.

Reviews

This is a most outstanding and special place to stay. The house, accommodation and ambience is quite exceptional. The presentation of the this fine classic house is impeccable. Our host, Nathalie, is a lovely, most welcoming, warm hearted lady, who was most caring and helpful. She provided us with all the information and advice we needed - and booked local restaurants. We certainly hope to come back again. Thank you.

Alan, Dorchester, Dorset, UK

We spent a Sunday night at Nathalie's home, our room was well appointed and the four poster bed was extremely comfortable. Car parking was convenient on the road outside of the house and the location quiet. Nathalie provided excellent information on the area, this showed most were closed on Sunday evenings so we decided to have a meal en-route. Nathalie is a charming host focused on ensuring her guests have an enjoyable stay. We left for our visit to Mont St Michel after an excellent breakfast made with quality ingredients. We have no hesitation recommending Nathalie's chambre d’ hote.

Vincent, Hampshire

We spent one night at Nathalies home and found it to be very comfortable and tastefully restored to reflect the character of this 19th century house. Parking was convenient in the road outside of the house and the location is very quiet. Nathalie provided excellent information in advance of our stay and advice on visiting Mont St Michel when we arrived. Nathalie’s advance information showed most restaurants in the vicinity were closed on the Sunday evening so we decided to have a meal enroute. Nathalie is a charming host who is focused on ensuring her quests have an enjoyable stay.

Vincent, Basingstoke

Lovely private house in attractive town in easy reach of Mont St Michel. Nathalie, our host, welcoming and attentive. Lovely breakfasts which we enjoyed in the dining room and sunny garden during our stay. Highly recommend.

Catherine, Bristol

A truly exceptional 4 night stay in this lovely home in the heart of Ducey. Nathalie is the perfect host providing a delicious breakfast taken either in her dining room or on the terrace. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she was so helpful with restaurant bookings and general advice. There are shady spots in the garden to doze off in over a good book and the Heavenly Rose bedroom is extremely comfortable and beautifully appointed. But above all it is the welcome given by Nathalie and her husband that made our stay so enjoyable. Another Sawday's winner - we shall definitely return.

Simon, Blandford Forum

This is the most beautiful property, located just steps from the centre of the town and a very short drive from Mont St Michel - a very welcome oasis of calm after the hustle and bustle of sightseeing. Everything has been thought of to make your stay a memorable one - the decor, the comfort of the rooms and bathroom, the breakfast offerings, the tranquil garden. Many thanks to Nathalie for your hospitality!

Emma, Leysin

This house is an old-school B&B. Owned and run by an artistic, welcoming owner and decorated to show her unbridled love of roses. A gorgeous bike ride to Mont St-Michel and the gardens and cider orchards of Normandy.

Location

The neighbourhood

Ducey sits on the river Sélune, the ancient frontier between Brittany and Normandy. You're surrounded by salty plains and farmland with sheep, crossed by Pilgrim ways. The huge Château des Montgommery is open to the public and the old Pont de Ducey is a fine medieval bridge. Mont Saint-Michel has one of the most famous views in France. St Malo and Dinan are both 45 minutes in the car.

Local points of interest from Nathalie Dorléans

  • The Wonder of the West, Mont Saint Michel has always fascinated men. This large « pebble » on which men built a monastery, in the Middle Ages, is in an immense bay surrounded by the largest tides in Europe.
  • Pretty village of flowers, Ducey invites you, in the heart of the Bay of Mont Saint Michel, to discover its riches and its natural environment. On arrival, you can admire the majestic Château de Montgomery, the Old Bridge, located on the pilgrims’ way to t
  • A visit to the Corsair City is essential! We advise you of course the walk of the ramparts, the Castle, the cathedral of Saint-Vincent but also of course the streets of old Saint-Malo
  • The city of Avranches offers many views of the Bay of Mont Saint Michel and tells, through its architecture and heritage, a dense and fascinating history of ancient times when it was called « Legedia ». You can discover an extraordinary heritage.
  • Built in the early seventeenth century, the Montgommery castle is located on the banks of the Sélune, in a park, at the entrance of the town of Ducey-Les Chéris. It houses a monumental staircase that has just been remarkably restored
  • Possible extra activities around Ducey and in the Mont Saint Michel bay: Hiking, Cycling, Fishing, Canoe and Kayaking on the Selune river in Ducey (only summer time), Sand Surfing, Microlight Flights around the bay of Mont Saint Michel
