The Experience

The lush garden shelters bees, bantams, sleek cats and a phenomenal variety of shrubs and flowering plants. Madame tends to her guests, with respect for everyone’s privacy, offers guidance on hiking, and there’s tennis and fishing nearby. Bedrooms, one on the ground floor with its own entrance to the garden, and one under a sloping ceiling, are large and beamed, filled with antiques and pictures.

Breakfast includes freshly-delivered bread from the bakery in Valmont, croissants, homemade cakes, yogurts and jams along with hard boiled eggs – help yourselves to anything for a picnic later on. You’re welcome to use the dining room, fix a simple meal, or sit by the wood-burner in the sitting room with a glass of Normandy cider from the fridge – this is a relaxed, generous place.

Valmont village is 1km away for château gardens, shops and two restaurants, one with a Michelin star. The cliffs at Étretat are 20 minutes away.

Reviews

A gem of a place. Delightful house and gardens, every comfort and facility one could wish for in a B&B. Be warned that, on a Monday night (as so often in France) you may not find a restaurant open in Valmont.

Michael

A very warm welcome with welcome drink and tour of the beautiful garden. Really comfortable beds and plenty of space for 4 of us in the family room. Breakfast was delicious - freshly picked mirabelles from the garden and home made jams of many varieties. A thoroughly enjoyable 'last night in France' at the end of the holidays.

Francoise and Dominique were fabulous, unintrusive, kind hosts. The house is beautiful, tranquil and has wonderful energy. The birds, cats, chickens and home honey make for a wonderful stay. It is more like 40 minutes drive to get to Etretat and the local restaurant, L'Agriculture is not really worth going to. We ate out in the day and dined in at night, eating lovely salad ingredients and French bread. The hosts are kindly accomodating of this. Thank you for a relaxing stay.

Lindsay

A beautiful spot, a comfortable, spacious and charming room, a delightful, helpful host, and rooms that were cat-free. The breakfast was delicious with home-made jams and amazing home-produced honey. My cat allergy is serious so I was much relieved at Dominiques efforts to keep the cats out of the B&B area. She understands its importance. A lovely stay.

Anthea

Superb, fantastic, relaxing and charming. Dominique and Francois are wonderful hosts.they are so helpful and the breakfasts are fabulous. We were made to feel so welcome. I chose this B and B after much searching, as this was to be a special few days for my partner and I could not have found a better place. The house is wonderful, and very clean, it is a good base to visit other places such as être tat, honfleur and Giverny the home of Monet so all in all a great week and we will be back for more of Dominique and Francois hospitality. Thank you both .

Location

The neighbourhood

From the end of the drive you can join a hiking path, or walk into Valmont then along the river. Bikes can be hired and there's a new voie verte 50m from the house along an old disused railway line. In the village you can visit the abbey and there are two restaurants, a posh one and a simpler one but with good food. Fecamp, a 20-minute drive is by the sea and has more choice. Honfleur is 1 hour.

Local points of interest from Dominique Cachera-Gréverie

  • Head out onto the hiking trail along the Valmont river.
  • The bike-road opened in May 2018, just 50 meters from the house which goes between Fécamp and Dieppe.
  • Sea and beach just 8km away - head to the village of Les Petites-Dalles.
  • We're only 30 minutes from the cliffs of Etretat.
  • Dine at the Michelin-starred restaurant in Valmont.
  • We keep beehives and make our own honey!

Introducing

Dominique Cachera-Gréverie

Dominiqe, an intelligent, active and graceful person, has been running this place for 30 years. She and her late husband fell in love with the house when on a walk along the river. It was then divided into two parts and they moved into one half and renovated it completely. When the other half came up for sale they bought it and renovated that too. Her son Nicolas now helps her to run the B&B.
