The Experience

This rambling old house has all the charm of 18th-century Provence and is very much a family home. The vast garden has lovely vistas and secret corners and is surrounded by woodlands on a hill above a village on the main road to Grasse.

Anders and Helen live in a separate apartment upstairs and enjoy having an aperitif with their guests. Breakfasts are a treat: everything organic, locally sourced or home-grown: fruit salad, pastries, hams and cheeses; eggs if you want. Dine around a long table in the elegant dining room or out on the porch with views of the garden.

There are several good restaurants within a ten-minute drive, including Michelin-star dining at La Bastide Saint Antoine in Grasse. Cannes, Antibes and Nice are all less than an hour away – or just stay at home and enjoy the garden, swimming pool, summer kitchen and boule court.

Reviews

This property is very special in that the area itself if absolutely beautiful, surrounded by such lovely nature, yet still very close to the medieval town of Grasse.. The cottages are ideal for two different families, wishing to spend a holiday together, yet still able to have some privacy and it's relatively rare to find such a situation. A haven of peace and quiet, so rare nowadays.

Helen and Anders were remarkable hosts. We loved the house, our room and their beautiful garden. Breakfast was a treat served on the terrace. We had a peaceful stay which was very relaxing. The swimming pool is wonderful on a hot day. We walked to the village ( 7 mins) where there are several nice places to eat in the evening. We felt very lucky to have chosen such a lovely place to stay. We were very grateful to our hosts and would love to return.

Christine, Berwick upon Tweed

We loved our stay and were so well looked after by Helen and Anders who continued to be most attentive for the 3 days we were there - making sure we had all we needed but also not being intrusive in any way. Helens' work in the garden means it is a delight and the pool was perfect after sightseeing. We would certainly stay again if we were nearby.

Henrietta, Pewsey

Were I not already living in this area, I would most certainly want to stay at L'Harmas myself! A genuine spirit of place prevails about this gracious house and beautiful property that were once part of the genuine story of Provence. The lovingly tended traces of an ancient vineyard, the gorgeous vistas and scents of the Mediterranean garden impart a feeling of peace and well-being that are becoming all too rare nowadays.

Location

The neighbourhood

The nearest village, Peymeinade, is less than ten minutes’ walk away and has shops, restaurants and an interesting flea market. A major attraction in the area is Grasse, eight minutes’ drive away, with its bustling medieval town centre and perfume distilleries. The village of Cabris is a ten-minute drive and has two good restaurants; St Cézaire (15 minutes) has an excellent Sunday market and stalagmite caves. The wine growing properties of the Var are also very popular, as are the innumerable hiking trails of the breathtakingly beautiful Grasse hinterland.
