The Experience

This glorious first-floor apartment for two is within the owners’ house, set within the stunning Lubéron hills. Accessed via (quite a lot of) exterior stairs, step inside to find simple interiors decked out in natural materials, duck-egg and taupe fabrics, driftwood lamps. Outside is your own secluded and well-equipped garden kitchen and patio for fresh-air cooking and dining too. Your hosts are charming: artist Guylaine and business consultant Franck live in the main house. When they are not working, find them harvesting their own olives, tending to the lavender, and extracting essential oil and producing honey from their hives. Spend your days lazing by the lavender-lined pool, shared with fellow guests, or head out and explore Provence – there is so much to see and do. Sample delicious rosé at local vineyards, wonder around famous villages Gordes, Rousillon, Bonnieux and Loumarin. Lovely, lively university town Aix en Provence was the hometown of post-impressionist painter Paul Cézanne – head there for its cathedral, galleries and bookshops, less than 30km away. The pretty seaside town of Cassis and its celebrated limestone calanques are only an hour’s drive. There are two other apartments on the property, but this is a getaway for adults only, so it’s still blissfully tranquil.

Reviews

Guylaine and Franck are the best hosts in the most beautiful location. The accommodation is fabulous, well appointed, super clean and most of all comfortable. The outside kitchen was a lovely addition. The grounds are lovely and everyone gets their own personal space in the garden with a wonderful view. The village is close by with the most amazing bakery. Unfortunately my husband had an accident whilst we were staying here, and Guylaine and Franck were simply amazing. Without their help and support the holiday would quickly have turned into a nightmare. Stay here, it's just fantastic.

Caroline, North Yorkshire

A lovely apartment in a lovely location - the apartment was beautifully decorated, spotless and contained everything needed with the outside area being a welcome addition. Guylaine and Franck were charming and very helpful - and their restaurant recommendations were excellent! We would love to visit again.

Barbara, Blackford

Hidden away with fabulous views, we spent a week lazing around in the beautiful gardens and pottering about perfect Provençal villages. The apartment is clean & comfortable, the outdoor cooking area a private haven to while away the evenings. Both the other apartments were occupied but the gite still felt private and quiet. We loved it & will be back.

Emma, Banbury

We received a very warm welcome from Franck & Guylaine which was a wonderful start to our holiday. The property is magnificent, exactly as the photographs show with beautiful gardens and a large swimming pool. The apartment is furnished to a high standard and has everything a couple could need. We also had exclusive use of an 'outdoor kitchen' area complete with fridge, plancher, sink, table & chairs. We ate here in this idyllic setting most evenings. If its peace & tranquillity and a great base from which to explore the Luberon you're looking for, then this is the place. A memorable stay.

Location

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Guylaine & Franck Barthelemy

  • Aix-en-Provence is pedestrian friendly and full of squares, fountains and markets. You can wander, drink a glass of Rosé, enjoy the Provençal air, have a more cultural approach with the Museum Granet, Cézanne workshop, or the Cathedral “Saint-Sauveur”
  • Avignon, charming fortified city, offers old alleys and the Cité des Papes. Enjoy the amazing view of the Avignon famous bridge. L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a little “Provencal Venice”, where you can find incredible antiques in the Sunday market.
  • Charming villages of Lubéron. I will share good addresses; restaurants, ice-cream maker, vineyards, art galleries etc, and the best walks around. Bikes are available for those who wants to enjoy a lovely ride just before the sunset.. and the aperitif!
  • Alpilles, a heaven on earth surrounded by olive trees and vineyards. You will find Saint Rémy’s village where Van Gogh painted famous canvas, as well as the Cathédrale d’Images aux Baux de Provence!
  • If you have the courage to go bit further, you can visit La Camargue and its white horses(1h), Cassis and les Calanques (1h), Arles, its Arenas and le Pont du Gard (1h) or even the splendid Verdon Gorges (1h30).
  • If you prefer a "Farniente day", you can simply pick up your baguette and croissants at Rognes, our charming little village, sit at one of the café terrace or come back and enjoy the swimming pool! Massage treatments also available on request.

Introducing

Guylaine & Franck Barthelemy

Guylaine (an artist from Paris) and Franck (a business consultant) live in the main house on site during low season and move to the mountains in the summer when it's rented out. They bought the place in 2003 and opened to guests in 2009. They're always there to greet and welcome you with a cup of tea or a glass of the local rosé. They harvest their olives for their own olive oil and extract essential oil from their lavender fields.
