The Experience
Stomp up the hill to the Plancerts lift – or get dropped off by the concierge – and swoosh down the Megève pistes. Later (snow permitting), ski back to the door. At 1200m, this characterful old chalet sits in high pastures above St Gervais. The views from the hot tub are spectacular.
This is a charmingly executed, eco-friendly restoration that mixes old and/or reclaimed with the best of new. Rustic open-tread stairs connect the three floors, from the big master bedroom at ground level, to the living room above – with a rotating log-burner – to the romantic bed and bath under the eaves where hay was once stored. In summer, donkeys, cows, goats and sheep come to graze the pastures. An extra room for 2 (at an extra charge) with a log-burner and barbecue is an exciting 5-minute walk through the forest.
Instead of TV there are books, games, DVDs and a piano to play. You can eat and drink in St Gervais, or chop, chat and stir in the sociable kitchen. Catering is possible, especially in ski season.

Location
The neighbourhood
In summer there are wild walks and wildlife; in winter, ski sports and uncrowded pistes. From the chalet you can walk uphill to the drag lift, or drive downhill to the Folie Douce for a beer (it gets lively). Drop down further to the charming spa town of St Gervais-les-Bains, and mingle with the Alpine cognoscenti. After a snowfall, freeriders can head for Chamonix.
Local points of interest from Anjana Devoy
- Take Jeanne or Marie the Frenchwoman's answer to Thomas the tank engine, to the top of the Prarion mountain on which the chalet sits, to see the most spectacular and close up views of Mont Blanc and the dents du midi . Pretty wow year round.
- Or hike up there - only the moderate to fit need apply but certainly good walkers will make it. Super fit and you can drop over the top and walk to the vielles luges in winter - a super genuine savoyard restaurant in Les Houches. [3-4 hours]
- The rest of us can further fail to lose calories by meeting the hiking party in les Houches and snow shoeing up to the resto { 2o-3o mins}. Further adipose can be gained by picking up the most divine custards at the patissier at the Bellevue lift.
- St gervais - -delightful traditional but cosmopolitan spa town in Parisian Belle époque style. Unspoiled, untouristy not cutesy but elegant and functional. Plenty of restaurants inc Michelin starred serac and market on Thursday. Raclette cheese from Leon!
- The obvious draw apart from the huge domaine skiable st gervais and les Houches are the thermal spas . Allow three hours to complete the parcours and have a really good recuperative soak. Massages are also available. Nocturnes are particularly agreeable.
- If all the nature is doing your head in - pop over the bridge or ski to Megeve. Famous resort started by the Rothschilds, home still to the bling and fur brigade, Hermes, medieval churches, horse drawn sleds and lots of fur. Good indoor sport centre too.

Introducing
Anjana Devoy
Ex barristers Anjana and David, are lovers of conservation and design and manage a handful of wonderful retreats across Pembrokeshire, Powys and the French Alps, which they visit whenever possible.
We had a WONDERFUL time at the chalet!!! It is so unique and beautifully put together, the furs give it a very cozy vibe! It was the perfect spot for us to have some seclusion surrounded by nature but also close enough that we could easily get to Chamonix (via car!) for skiing. The bathtub upstairs and the hot tub outside were an added bonus after a long day of skiing!! Definitely recommend 4WD and a car with high clearance! George was SO helpful always having a fire ready or suggesting best restaurants (La Taniere was literally the best food ever).
